Anyone have a link to a site doing benchmarks on both of these cards? I'd like to see how much of a difference there is between the 2 =)

Pretty much just in games where you pump the resolution and quality enough to need past 128 megs. (As an example, in UT2003 it tends to be noticed in 1600x1200 at 4xAA/8xAF tests.) Important if you REALLY like to push things, and will be more important in the future, but for now I don't really think it's worth the $100+ price difference usually associated.

don't have any benchmarks handy for you, but I assure you I've read them and cthellis said it pretty well: If you play at REALLY high resolutions with AA/AF enabled, then the extra 128megs helps. But you need the CPU to match those resolutions and terxtures, so if you don't have the best then don't waste your money on the extra 128megs. R9800Pro 128 is still a KICK ASS video card :)

PS - wanna save more money? Buy a R9800 non-pro, and just overclock it to Pro or nearly Pro levels. Should save you at least 50 bucks . One important note though, a R9800SE is NOT the same thing as a R9800 non-pro

Yeah, if you can one. Last place I saw them was Circuit City and they've been completely cleaned out. Besides if you know where to look you can find a 9800 Pro for around $270 which I think is a fantastic deal.

Think i'd still like to get the 256 -- been forever since I've had an awesome top of the line type of card and been able to push the graf-x to the max. Current card is a ti 4200 =/

$250. From ATi itself. (http://www.ati.com/buy/traderebate/tradeup.html) HL2 voucher included. (You just spend a little extra on shipping and sending them one of your old, dust-gathering 3D cards.)

The 256MB version is $350 through the same offer, also with HL2 included. About as good a price as I ever see it for the 256MB version. (And those without the coupon--or at least without a guarantee.)

The Jesus told me one thing about the NP.

"it will push over an XT when it's a 3.3ns samsung sapphire."

He was correct:

stock with bios flash my sapphire goes 450/412 before artifacts ;)

I'm keeping it on principal for another year :)

also, to be warned; the 9800 pro 256 runs hot. hotter than the 9800xt, i think; probably cause of the DDR-II ram onboard.

Yeah, but it's winter. The heat won't go to waste. ;)

It doesn't run hotter than the xt, i have one and the temps aren't that bad. With stock cooling i was around 55c idle and 62c load. Now with the zalman setup it's 44c idle and 53c full load....
