nforce audio doesn't work

Hi,

nforce audio doesn't work correctly under Suse 9.0. when I try to play oggs
with xmms the sound is totaly distorted, unless I installed the NVidia nforce driver (NVIDIA_nforce-1.0-0261.suse90.i586.rpm).

Kernel 2.4.21-99-athlon

the sound driver seems to be snd-intel8x0

Thank you for reading my message - I'm nearly dispaired because I tried everything a newbie like me can do. Also the readmes from nvidia and suse doesn't work.

Hi,

your kernel seems to be missing the ac97_codec.o module.
(Re)install this module and your sound should work fine.

If you don't want to recompile your kernel, I suggest to install

also the driver called
"Intel ICH (i8xx), SiS 7012, NVidia nForce Audio or AMD 768/811x"
(kernel config-option CONFIG_SOUND_ICH) should work fine and also depends/provides on/an ac97_codec.o. If you are playing Quake3 you have to use this driver (Quake3 crashes with nvaudio.o).
