As I'm reading the forum posts here at NV News, another one of those ads for "Chaser" just came on TV. Supposedly they guarantee that you will not get a hangover if you take them when you start drinking.

Anybody have any experience with these? New Years Eve is just around the corner... :D

There is a natural solution for not having to suffer a hangover. Make sure you eat some greasy food before you drink and under no circumstances mix different alcohols. Mixing is in over 90% of cases a main cause of hangover. If you DO get a hangover however, alcaseltzer is your best friend. 30-45 min and you are ready to go :)

I find the best way to avoid a hangover myself is to drink beer for half of the night then switch over to vodka. For some reason I never ever get a hangover on Vodka. Well....there was one time, but in my defence I did drink a entire bottle in one night :eek2:

I never mix alcohols yet I usually get a hellacious hangover. I typically don't eat a whole lot before I drink either. I've never tried Alca Seltzer before though.

Heh, so your solution is to mix alcohol. I guess everybody has their own method for hangover avoidal. I've just never had much luck myself and was therefore curious about this 100% effective pill that has been advertised on the TV lately.

Apparently, it was something devised originally by the KGB.

Always eat plenty of greasy food before drinking. Plus, during your drinking of alcohol make sure you also drink lots of water. A big problem when drinking a lot is dehydration. Long as you also have plenty of water flowing through your system, you'll be fine the next day.

I usually end up having a dodgy burger before going home, as well as having plenty of liquid during the night as Ed says.

Of course its been a long time since I've been drunk now. Well 1 1/2 months:p

I knew an alcoholic who said the cure to hangovers was to drink a beer straight away when you get up so you vomit. After you vomit, you feel right as rain. I've never tried this so use at your own risk.

I think anything on the market that promotes drinking to such a state regularly shouldn't be allowed. :argh:

Ah, I had heard of that and was wondering if this was the same stuff.

So.... somebody go buy some and start drinking and let us know how it works out.

It does actually work, or at least it did when I was drinking a lot one night. I had some Raki, which makes me as sick as a dog due to a previous experience with the stuff. I felt crap for about 30 minutes and eventually threw up in the toilets and felt as right as rain and got back to my tequila slammers:angel:

There may be some truth in that.

JD and I became very close friends, too close. Anyways, it was getting to the point that I was passing out everytime I drank, but I would always have a good chunder before passing out. Next day I never had a hangover, would feel a little rough, but nothing to stop me from going into work at 8-9am :)

Mind you I have stopped drinking for like 3 years now....and I never get hangovers :p

To all who suggest eating greasy foods before drinking alcoholic beverages - it can backfire in a huge way. True, the grease does help, it prevents alcohol from getting absorbed right away through the walls of intestines. BUT, this also creates a false sense of security. You don't feel the slightest buzz and keep guzzling down drinks all night, when your greasy shield wears of, you get an alcohol poisoning, praying to the porcelain gods, splitting headache, the whole 9 yards.

Like someone already stated, it is best not to mix different types of alcohol drinks. If you do mix, general rule of thumb is to go from lower % to higher. Remember to keep eating as you consume alcohol, and just be aware of your general state of mind as you go. Also if you do smoke, don't start chaining, try to hold out a bit, pace yourself. In the end it's just like riding a bike, it's a process you must learn, in order to enjoy properly. :D

As above, drinking water while drinking booze always helps me. Assuming I stay hydrated and get a decent amount of sleep afterwards, I can drink myself into oblivion with no hangover.

My brother, on the other hand, is a big proponent of the "hair of the dog" method, also mentioned above, except that he doesnt vomit. He just wakes up, drinks a beer, and goes about his day.

And I have to agree...chain smoking while drinking leaves a much worse after-effect than the drinking itself. 10x the headache of a normal hangover and the taste of Hell itself.

Well, I got home from the worst party ever around 3 this morning. It's amazing home some people change in a few short months away at college. I came back and realized that I didn't know anyone anymore outside my close realm of friends.

Best way to avoid a hangover is moderation, and of course, dont drink ;)

About food; Bread is about the best, because it soaks up the alcohol.
