View Full Version : Couple of game problems...

When I try to play Need for Speed High Stakes, I can only play it under software rendering, not Direct X Device... When I go to 3d device setup and change it to it, and try to start the game, it will load, and when the screen goes black, and I can hear my monitor click changing resolutions.. it kicks back to desktop... I use the latest Forceware or Omega drivers, depends on what I am doing that day... I also have a similar problem with Ghost Recon... The game crashes back to desktop constantly and soemtimes gets the BSOD "nv4_disp.dll" error.... and says something about "page fault in non paged area"... I've tried turning AA and AF off on both of these games, with no luck. My O.S. is Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1. Any help with these problems are greatly appreciated!!

That nv4_disp.dll error is a display driver problem. I would recommed trying a different driver set. Driver (http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_45.23.html) Follow that link and try those drivers.

Much of your Need for Speed High Stakes problems can be attributed to the operating system if you're trying to run it under Windows XP. The only way I've been able to get that game to successfully work on XP is to download the 4.44 patch and a no-cd crack. You'll also have to edit the shortcut to the game. Right click on the shortcut, select properties and where it says Target, the line should read like this (including quotes):
"C:\*wherever you installed the game*\Need for Speed High Stakes\nfshs.exe" -d3d0

I appreciate the replies! I have used Detonator 45.23 (i think that was the last version?) and Omega 1.4523 and currently on Forceware 53.03.. none of them work, and they all give the same error... I can re-install the game and play it for a few minutes until it crashes again, either the same error or just a crash back to the desktop.
The reply on NFS HS worked! I appreciate that, the game is beautiful now.
