Well, it seems Windows has FUBAR'd me once again. This time though whenever I try to install a game I get to a particulate part of the install, and get a swap file error.

I.E. "Failed to extract E:\MSGAME.CAB. This may be caused by low disk memory (low memory in swap file). Please restart your computer and run setup again."

This happens every time, and magically only began when I installed Halo. Now, that I have to reinstall MW4 Mercenaries it is doing it here also, but won't completely install as I was able to get Halo to eventually do.

Any solutions?

Sort of. I once had this problem and had to reinstall windows to get rid of it. I could not even install nVIDIA's detonator. Do a System Restore to see if it helps. If not, do a Google search for INSTALLSHIELD ENGINE UPDATE; install it and see what happens. Never worked for me but....

This is just a long shot if you havn't already tried this:

Install shield
o Try to update the install shield engine (refer to previous post).
o Disable anti-virus programs even if it is a game, not a driver.

Rebuild virtual memory
1) Disable swap file completely (Set 'no paging file').
2) Run ScanDisk (Use Error-Checking drive tool).
3) Make sure there is plenty of free disk space.
4) Defrag drive.
5) Set swap file to something like 768mb fixed size, Max 1.5gb.

Well, it turns out I had to format and reinstall Windows. Everything seems okay now, though I havn't tried installing a game yet. We will see shortly, I suppose

Even after a fresh install of Windows I still get the Swap File problem.

Well, I'm probably just going to make it simple. Lay this old dog to rest, and acquire a new desktop.
