Installing GeForce FX 5200Ultra AGP

I just got a GeForce FX5200 Ultra AGP 128 MB DDR to replace the Nvidia RIVA TNT2 model 64 Pro that came with my computer package. I have 1GHz AMD Athlon processor, 640 RAM, Windows ME. Removed the old drivers thru the device manager, shut down, installed the new card and drivers after restart. When my desktop showed up there were vertical lines of missing pixels and all the graphics look fuzzy. The text is barely readable. What is the problem here? Any advice appreciated. Thanks.:)

hmmm sounds like a refresh rate problem as well

start windows in SAFE MODE, and check the monitor/display properties, make sure the refresh rate is set to 60hz. Your monitor may be to old for the video card's default settings. If that doesn't work, then the resolution may be too high as well.
