I don't see why nvidia wasted transistors on FP16 support.

Why not go full FP32 giving say a 6x2 design(obviously this is all theoretical BTW) and even if the performance was still a little under the r300 they could have the PR machine sprouting how their's is higher precision and above the minimum spec!

Hopefully they wake up to themselves with NV40 and go FP32 all the way!

Otherwise ATI will just walk all over them again.

Has it been confirmed/rumoured that NV40 will be 8X1 or either 8X2 pixel pipeline. No hybrid stuff? ala nv3X?

If that's how you define "hybrid", it's 8x2/16x0 or maybe 8x2/16x1.

Uttar and mufu already gave us the rumour it had taped out. In fact Mufu has been sayoing that the A1 revision of the nv40 die will be received by NV soon..or they.

Yeah exactly what I am talking about. I mean like nv3X, 4x2 or 8x1...etc. Will NV40 be a rigid piepline or not, I guess you answered that.
