CES 2004 is a possibility, by the time the next GDC gets here NV40 will hopefully be in stores already (or atleast reviews will be up on the web).

At the last GDC, they announced the 5600 and the 5200. If you count the months since the 5950 launched, it would be 2 months(Oct 2003 launch) and CES is only 4 days away.... That would make a lot of OEMs unhappy if they can't sell off their 5950U stocks..... And Nvidia only launches next gen stuff every 6 months after the previous launch.

And Uttar pointed out Feb - March 2004 for a possible NV40 launch, I'm not sure what trade show is in Feb though.....

P.S.: February seems unlikely at this point. March is a strict minimum, too.

June is in summer, it is very wrong!

Here may some clue/hint from Nvidia contest last year to win a trip to see Nvidia next product launch, the closed date of contest was 15 December 2003. I had lots of flyer scratch cards from magazines and posts, most rules for flights for trips or holidays, during the close date of contest, the ticket will be issued and the winner(s) must be fly out 4 weeks from the close date of contest. Imagine when the Nvidia contest closed on 15 December 2003, then the tickets issued and the winner(s) must be fly out 4 weeks from the closed date of Nvidia contest. That will be around 12 January 2004, CES 2004's last day is 11 January 2004. :)

It either possible NV40 be launch on January or February and be in stores on time in March for Spring. I think it likely to be launch in February - it will be exactly 2 years after Geforce 4 launch in 2002 and the cards were in full supply until April.

I don't think we'll see the nv40 earlier than march and availability untill july-agust.

Unless ATI announces the R420 earlier...

We'll hear about NV40 probably in Feb or March, then it should be available around April or May

They were aiming for Q1 so was ATI but looks unlikely now then again the a R300 was a fiarly big surprise maybe we will see the same again with the R420.

I thought the 5900XT was the same thing as a 5900SE.

Let me repeat myself, since you none of you seem to have understood what I truly meant: March is the strict minimum.
And that's for the announcement; not retail avaibility. A rather NV30-ish announcement it might be if it's done in March, too.

NVIDIA should consider itself happy not to have talked about the NV40 at all, officially. Otherwise, everyone would be thinking about how similar this is to the NV30 delays; although IMO, the NV30 ones were an awful lot more important, both in length and gravity, considering the R420 won't be anywhere as "early" compared to the NV40 as the R300 was to the NV30.

Uttar

P.S.: Theorically, the SE is not equal to the XT: SE = 400Mhz core clock, XT = 390Mhz core clock. But I suspect AIBs are extremely "flexible" when it comes to naming their parts.

Hardly, since ATI will be releasing a product around the same thing this generation, instead of the one sided launch from R300 vs NV30.

Uttar: are you saying that we will see R420 launched in and stores before NV40 is launched and in stores? Thanks.

Uttar

Well, the original plan was for the NV40 to be launched a few *months* BEFORE the R420. But now, it'll be launched either at the same time or even after it, depending on how good both NVIDIA *and* ATI are doing.
I'm not sure I understand your last question; I can only assume you asked whether the R420 would be in stores before the NV40 would even be launched. Well, that's possible, but in such a wost case scenario for NVIDIA, I believe they might just as well paper launch the NV40 just before the R420 is in stores in order to ruin ATI's sales...

The good news is the NV40 is likely to include many of the innovations the NV45 was supposed to bring. The bad news is the NV45 will most likely also be delayed and improved in order to fill the gap between the NV40 and NV50 as the NV50 will also have to be delayed, partly because of the Longhorn/DX10 delays.

I'd also say the NV41/NV42/... are likely to be launched extremely near to the NV40, since they were actually planned at around the same time the NV40 will now be released(!)
Possibly even nearer than the NV31/NV34 were to the NV30 launch...

Heck, at this rate, by the time NVIDIA and ATI got their next-generation parts out, I'll also be universally recognized as one and only master of the world! Meh.

Uttar,

What are these "innovations the NV45 was supposed to bring" you are talking about? I always thought NVx5 is just a process improved, speedbumped version of the NVx0 chip......... :D
