Pete Rose admits he bet on baseball. (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,107361,00.html) We all knew he did but still it makes me sad. Pete Roses was a idol of mine when he was playing and this is just another idol of my childhood that came crashing down. OJ Simpson was another sports idol of mine. I love to watch him play. When he killed his ex wife it was a major dissapointment to me.

Well I am grown up now ( I think) and I no longer have sports idols. Infact I have a great deal of contempt for atheletes in general.

perhaps now he may be admitted back into the baseball fraternity... better shamed and in there than not at all... his achievements cant be overlooked but now an appropriate asterisk can be applied...

its a darn shame that he did what he did given his skills... but admitting it is the first step to some for of redemption...

Joe Jackson needs to be in the hall of fame also IMO. He did not take the money but they still will not allow him in. They have convicted murderers in the hall and even Ty Cobb who pistol whipped a man to death is in the hall but if you bet on the game. OMG you INFIDEL!!! WE BANISH THEE. Yes gambling on the game is bad and you should not be given credit for doing that but come on. Have some levity here.

He better not be let back into the Hall or into baseball period. And what's with this whole "woe is me" act that he's been putting on? Who does he think he's kidding? Pete Rose can and should rot on the streets of Cincinnati.

It's too bad Bud Selig is a moron who couldn't run his way out of a paper bag.

I could care less if he gets in or if he doesn't. I just think it's funny how gambing is the worst crime you can commit in sports. LMAO!!! We have drug addicts, wife beaters, convicts and murderers in there. LMAO!!! ;)

Thank you!!!

Finally, someone else who thinks that Pete Rose can sit outside the doors of Cooperstown for eternity.

He bet on the game; you can not tell me that he didn't bet on his own team. That's inexcusable.

Is betting on the game worse than wife beating or murder?

that is a valid point :)

and for that reason alone I think given the calibre of some people in cooperstown... it is only logical to admit pete...

either that or disqualify those who are already enshrined...

Ya, my point is not that Pete Rose is a great guy and should be in the hall. I personally think he he is a dork and maybe should not be allowed it. Yet it does strick me as odd Pete is not allowed in and Ty Cobb is in and others who are nasty people.

Ever since the Black Sox, gambling has been a sensitive issue for baseball. People take that more serious than the other problems that plague the league.

And lying with a straight face for 15 years is so much better. It also strikes me as kind of odd that this all comes out now after it's also revealed that he has a book that's in print as we speak.

"Oh I was lying, I bet on baseball. Now buy my book, suckas."

Please.

Let's be fair. If you're going to tell a lie, you have to at least stick with it.

I had never heard that Ty Cobb had pistol whipped a person to death. Do you have a link U? I am not doubting you, I would just like to learn the particulars of the incident. I can't find anything on Google about it.

I have to admit I am not certain it is true either. I have heard that story many times, so no I don't have any proof or any links. I am just going on hear say.

Don't quote me here but I thought it was also on Burn's Baseball documentary.

generally, i've always felt that athletes make awful role models. they are put on a pedastal by the media, but are just as flawed as the rest of us. only richer.

No, no, I agree with you. I was just posing the question. I don't like pro athletes. They are spoiled kids who never have had to answer for them selves. (just my opinion) I could care less if he gets in. The hall of fame doesn't mean squat to me. I just like watching baseball on a warm summers day and following my Mariners. Other than that. I don't care what they do.

I don't care what they do. agreed too. pro athletes are spoiled, mainly because they are very rich and treated like royalty by teams, agents, groupies, media, etc (until they screw up ... ermm, kobe).

however, ppl take sports way too seriously, and the issue of whether or not rose should get into the hall of fame is a major issue. i couldn't care less either. but, if it is a hall of famous ball players, and not a hall of well behaved role model-like players, then rose is very famous (or infamous) and should be accepted, despite his faults. Go Jays!
