You guys think is possible to use a geforce FX 5900 with an 230w AT power supply? Sure it is, as long as it only powers the 5900.
For a couple of years I used a Geforce4 ti 4600 with a 300w ATX PS, since its the minimum requirement for the 5900 I tought it should work, specially since I didn't have anything else beside the card and the hard drive.
Initial testing showed that my pc freezed after a few minutes, mostly when there was hard disk activity. A few reboots later it seemed to be more stable, so I fired up Unreal 2 for a test. About 15 min later KABOOOOOOOOOOOMMMM!!!! the power supply was dead.
After blowing my 300w ATX power supply, I was looking for replacement. I was looking for at least a 400w PS, but they are expensive here in Mexico, so I figured out I could use an old 230w AT Power supply to feed the 5900 directly.
So far it works, its stable and I even tried some overclocking.
