Wow,
that's a huge difference.
Will it improve with a vid card?
Prolly not, I've run this exact gf2 at the same OC settings on a p4 2.53 with a gig of DDR and hit 6000 points.
It's most likely NOT the card holding this back.
Would anyone be willing to sell or donate the following:
Pentium III - Coppermine FCPGA (256k)
700MHz until 1.13GHz
?
Please?

3dmark is sensitive to your whole system. you should gain at least 1000 points by switching over to a DX8 capable video card simply because that GF2 can't run all the tests. using the same CPU you have now, a GF3 could probably bust out around 5000 3dmarks.
with GF2 MX and Celeron 850 i was getting 2700-800 3DMarks @1133Mhz 3300+
With a GF4 Ti4200 128Mb
GF4 @290/550 i think and Celeron 850 = 5751 (http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4408876)
GF4 @310/560 Celeron 1133Mhz = 7842 (http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4576902)
with a Ti4200 clocked at 250/444(default for 128MB cards) my P3 667 system gets around 5200-5400 3DMarks....

it really all depends on what is most important to you, game performace, or overall system performance like browsing, processing, etc.

Get a Ti 4200, my p3 system got 4100 3dmarks with one in. It isn't the best around, but it gets the job done, and quite nicely too.
Every DX 9 video card is cpu bound for now lolz. Even some DX 8 cards. BUT as soon as you crank up the res to 1600x1200 and over with AA and AF they are no longer cpu limited are they? :)

As a reference, this 1800/A7N266C/2x256/WD300BB/GF3ti200 at 200/460 gets around 7200.
A p3 what? 450? Jesus that's slow. My Ti4200 gets me over 5200 3DMark 2001 points...3DMark 2000, that's a different story there.
Anyways, for reference here's my 3DMark 2001 Scores:
http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4610625
Also here's my overclocked score:
http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4595092
And finally, my Geforce 2 score:
http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=2883489
Once you get to high resolutions, it's fillrate limited. I've done a few tests with Quake 3, and when I kick 1600x1200x32 with 8x AF and 4x AA, it's only 40 FPS...but my card will really get no higher than 65-70 FPS at any res with sound enabled.

I get more than 7600 3dmarks in 3dMark 2001 SE
with a pentium3 700@922 and Geforce4 4600 (320/700)
