View Full Version : Piracy X Piracy
I see that many of you like to download MP3. But what about roms and ISOS ? It's still piracy. So here's a poll.

I usually download whatever Im looking to buy..I use the ISO/MP3 as a demo.
I always want the original of whatever application/album Im looking for..If it sucks then I wont bother buying it..

Let's see.
After Max Payne, I 'download' any games i'm interested in that don't have demos available.
I play around. If they suck, i make coasters of the cd.
If they rock, i buy the game.
So yes, yes

When it comes to games if they dont have demos I would definatly download it to see if it was worthy. No one will refund a game you have bought over here, so if it sucks your screwed:mad:
I gotta agree with most ppl here.
I'm a big-time "try before you buy" kinda guy.
if I see something i'm interested it, I'll download it to give it a run-through. If I like it I'll buy the thing. I'm like !plonk* in this. I just like to have the original packaging with all the pretty boxes, cases, and manuals, etc. I just like it better. And if I happen to get something I don't like, it goes onto a CD full of other crap. If it sucks I wouldn't have bought the thing anyway so it's not like they're losing money or anything.
And on the side here, if I can afford to buy what I want, I'll buy it. But if I can't afford it, never WILL afford it (*cough* windows *cough*) and probably wouldn't buy it because it's unreasonably priced, I don't see anything wrong with downloading it... Ummmm whasn't there an article posted saying pretty much what I'm trying to get across? o.O ANDREW!!! FIND IT!
Games that I really really want I dont bother dl unless it isnt out here yet (which happenes alot). Dont really dl mp3z, all the music I like, Led Zepp etc are all on cd. Most of the games I have dl, I havent even finished them cos I got bored or didnt like them. I also have two brothers in-law which also buy games, so between us all we buy most of all the good games. :D Sorry forgot to add, I do dl movies. Most of the time Ive seen there here already at the cinema in French, but like watching them again in English also ;)

The only time I fire up Kazaa is when I'm jonesing for a certain remix or a tune that's out of print and I just gotta hear it before it drives me insane. Other than that, I usually don't bother because I allready own 98% of the music I grove to.
I also might fire up Kazaa to snag a certain file if the wait on FilePlanet it too long and the other mirrors downright suck rocks. I might have to start pulling a Cpl. Dan and sample ISOs and stuff because there's lot of games that are coming out between now and the end of the year because fundage is low and tinkering with a neutered demo won't sastisfy me.
Thus, snagging an "extended demo" is the only option for me so I can weigh these games and put them into their respective piles - there's the "games I just gotta have" pile and the "games I can probably live without for a while but will eventually buy" pile. :p

I download a lot games, but only buy the best.
So I bougth games like:
GTA3
Neverwinter nights
Battlefield 1942
and after playing some hours with the iso of mafia i think i will buy it the next month.
And im not so sure about nolf2 (i donwnloaded the demo, but is not that good for my), so i will download the full game, and i'll see if worths the US$45
For movies is diferent 'cause i usually rent the dvd.

Like many others here, I'm big on try before you buy. That's how I got into Our Lady Peace - I borrowed Mp3's from my friends and downloaded others before I went out and purchased their music.
For games, I'll almost always buy them. I would download "extended demos" but would inevitably buy the game if I liked it. It's kind of hard to do now because of my lackluster Internet connection. But I'm pretty particular about my games anyway - like buying UT2k3 is a no-brainer, along with DooM 3 and NFS: Hot Pursuit 2. I would like to try NOLF 2 and am hoping Maximum PC will be putting it on the CD's I get with my magazine every month. :)

I download MP3s and if I like it enough, I'll buy the album. If not, I'll just listen to it, not like it, and delete it. With games, I rarely download them because it can be a pain in the ass to do it. Finding the ISOs, waiting a couple days to download them, then burning it and having to get the cracks is just a hassle. If it's a game I know I want (NWN, which I ended up hating ironically), I'll just go out and buy it even if I should probably try it out first. I'm just too impatient to download a game.
However, I don't think anyone has the right to trash on a game if they beat it without paying for it. I remember a guy on ve3d saying he had beat the whole warcraft campaign before the game was out, and he wouldn't buy it because it just wasn't that great. Anyone who downloads a game, beats it, then bitches about it has no right to do so. They obviously liked it enough to beat it.

Why don't you look for full games at classified section at any newspaper ? There are hundreds of ads selling ISOs there, and you can order 10 games for $40 on average.
If you like any specific game, buy the official copy. :)

for me i see it as a kind of qality test too... for example i rescentley bought a whole host of old blink 182 albums after sampling them and loving them... but on gettin other bands stuff i figure i may as well not, cos i prolly wont listen to it much

that's terrible. it's one thing to pirate stuff for yourself, it's quite another to make a profit off of it. i would never give people who sell stuff i can find myself a penny
Yes to all until the retailers start refunding my money for garbage product. And yes, Stealth. I would certainly not pirate something for a personal profit.. If anything, THAT kind of pirating is stealing.

The only things I download are things you cannot buy new from any store/digital download site. If the creator/publisher isn't getting anything out of it anyway, I don't see a difference... otherwise, legal and purchased all the way, including MP3s of course... I like how people treat MP3s as different just becaue they're smaller... it's still piracy!
