I was at CompUSA the other day and stumbled upon a game called Corvette. I hadn't heard of this title, but I wasn't sure if it was any good because it was being published by TDK and it was only $20. However, as I am a GM guy by heart and a huge fan of the 'Vette I figured the price of entry wasn't all that bad.
So far I'm pretty impressed with it. Track and car models are surprisngly good and the game runs totally smooth on my machine at 1280x1024 with no AA or AF. There is an option in-game to up the FSAA to 4x super sampling though I have not yet played around with it. The physics take quite a bit of getting used to. I'm not entirely sure if it's trying to be realistic, but sometimes it feels like an overblown arcade racer, in the vein of NFS: Hot Pursuit 2. There are SP and MP modes and you get to drive just about every production Corvette under the sun. There are further gameplay modes to unlock as you beat both the amateur and professional career modes. I'm slowly working my way through it, and the game is proving to be challenging without being overly frustrating.
I like to think of this game as sort of a Need for Speed: Corvette Unleashed. It's definitely my favorite racing game since Porsche Unleashed, and you can't beat the price.
Here's the TDK homepage (http://www.tdkm.com/) where you can find out more. CompUSA is the only place I've seen it for sale. EB has it available for Xbox, but this PC version isn't even in their system. For a console port, this game was done exceptionally well. A must-buy for a Corvette fan and something worth a look for fans of the racing genre (especially those like me who have been turned off by NFS: Underground).
