View Full Version : Which Ram Sinks
So which Ram sinks do you guys think are better? Their going on my 9800Pro with some Artic Silver Epox.
The OCZ kit comes with Thermal Tape, am i better of using that instead of Epoxy? wont the AS Epoxy do a better job?

Mine had thermal tape, which I found to be hassle free. Mixing an epoxy sounds like more work than I'm willing to do for a few little RAM sinks. With either pair I'd venture to say you'll only squeeze another 5-10mhz out of your mem clock anyway, so it really boils down to price. I'd get the OCZ just based on the ease factor.
Oh and post 1500.

The OCZ sinks look like they have a LOT more surface area to disipate the heat with than those crome plated ones...and won't the chrome actually hamper heat dissipation?
I know the OCZ ones might not look as snazzy, but they really look like they would be better to me.
If I were choosing between the two, I'd choose the OCZ ones.
Im leaning towards the OCZ ones as well, I have also heard storries of people lapping down the Tweakmonster ones and finding not 100# Copper inder the chrome outside.
As for the Epoxy, AS makes it pretty easy with this kit http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_thermal_adhesive.htm
I ordered some OCZ sinks for my 9800Pro. Not expecting much benefit in performance but the ram does get a little warm so the sinks should help. Also, I am going to use the thermal tape as epoxy tends to be permanent especially when mixed full strength.

You will be lucky if the sinks cool your memory by 2C.

its really a case of give and take.
i have the ocz memory on my 9800 pro.. the sinks get warm, so they are picking up the heat from the memory. although, when overclocking alot more factors come into play than just heat.
I got a new BIOS for my card.
Radeon 9800NP flashed with special PRO BIOS now i can do 440/800MHz w/ 3.3ns :D too bad it doesn't do much to 3D mark now as i am CPU bottlenecked :(
I don't think you need to be complainin too much about your (***225fsb w00t!!***) specs, Dazz... :p:p:p
