I've been seeing this on pricewatch, what's the deal? I mean that's a lot less than any other 5900NU I've seen, it's less than any 5900XT even. Is there some kind of catch?

No catch. I just bought one last week. It was $185 shipped, but it's a full retail 5900nu. Got mine from CompuHQ.com. Great card for the price.

EDIT: Also my ram runs at 850, not 950 as the BFG site states. Although, coolbits tells me that the safe overclock for 3D is 450/950, so perhaps that is what they were talking about. *shrug*

The BFG site states the ram is 850mhz.... where did you see 950?

Also, the e-mail confirmation I had about a week ago stated that BFG didnt make any S.E. editions of the 5900 so that made me feel slightly better about wanting to purchase one (as not to worry if I was giong to get the rinky dink low end version of all cards via Pricewatch (gotta be careful sometimes heh)

Damn, that's a nice deal. Even the SEs don't go for that cheap. If I had money, I might even pick that up...

At that price you would have to be silly to get anything else......

I got my card! WOOT. These things run hotter. My Albatron 5900 ran cooler than this BFG. Anyone who has this card, what is your idle temp? I noticed that thermal tape was used on the ram. I wonder if they use tape on the gpu as well

Well, now that's a great way to boost their 5700 Ultra sales. :)

NV36 is a sweet chip. Thats what the 5600 series should have been like in the first place. Too bad it showed us it's pretty face way to late, cause who'll buy one now? FX5900 at these prices is murder. :D

I've had my BFG 5900nu for about 1.5 months now. It idles in the high 40s to low 50s, and peaks in gaming in the mid 70s. It's an amazing card.

*************

Note to everyone*

Newegg shows the BFG 5900 in stock, and the image they show of it says COD comes with it. $175 shipped w/ COD is an outstanding price!

My card runs between 39 and 41 idle and has reached a max of about 60-65. Pretty good if you ask me.

dang, mine idles at 55c. did you remove the crap thermal pads and put on your own paste? I'm gonna do that once I burn the card in for a week

Has anyone done the BIOS flash to it yet? Works ok?

if the memory isnt rated for the Ultra speed and there isnt enough cooling on the chips, flashing the bios would probably be a bad idea

Arent all BFG's 5900's the same chips? If not, which are the correct ones.

It worked just fine for me using the Gainward BIOS. I'm a little disappointed that I can't quite hit 500/500 but there's no way I could be running at the speeds I am now without the flash.

did you lose VIVO capability with that flash? can you link me to the bios

saturnotaku

Yes, VIVO stops working. But since it's not a feature I use I don't miss it. Links to BIOS files and more information can be found here (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23089)
