I am about ready to buy a new card. Tossing around the idea of a 5700 Ultra or a 5900SE. I have about $200 -250 to play with and just wanted to get some user input/feedback.

Thanx

SE = XT. Or... close enough. There are 400/700, 400/800, and 400/850 models, apparently. It's crazy.

If you can get a 400/850, that's rockin. A 400/700 is plenty, to be honest, but a 400/850 would be fantastico.

Yea, I am digging thru newegg as we speak. That eVGA SE for $188 w/ CoD seems to bee a good deal.....like I need another game to play. Well I was thinking about picking it up.

Well it's narrowed down:

Just because I have had great luck with leadtek:

400/850:
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-130-157&catalog=48&depa=1

or cause this seems to be a good deal 400/700:

The evga 400/700 with game is a great deal.
I bet that card will hit 450/800 anyway. If not close.
The leadteks memory will not do 800 from what I've read.

If I were buying one I would get that evga 400/850. :)
I'm sure the core will do 450.

I suggest you get the BFG FX5900 Nu. Going for about $180 right now. It's not an Se/Xt version.

Then bios flash it to a Fx5950 ultra. ;)

Tested out the eVGA FX5900SE recently, it's a good buy. Quiet, virtually as fast as the non-ultras, and it generates less heat due to the slower RAM so it might be good for computers that will have less ventilation or run in a warn enviro for some reason. I also didn't notice the scroll noise that the NU's have, tho I may just have missed it.

That's even a question? Hehe...

Any version of the 5900 will beat up the 5700U, so it doesn't really matter what you find at that price.

Elsewhere someone mentioned the best 5900 non-Ultra able to be found is the BFG Asylum 5900 at CompuHQ (http://store.yahoo.com/compuhq/bfgasge5912d.html). There are other store options as well down pretty low--check PriceWatch.com

(Query: Is BFG's "lifetime warranty" the one that's only good for as long as they're making that model card?)

No, you're thinking of MSI/PNY video cards, their warranties are kinda lame lasting only half a year practically. BFG actually has THE BEST warranty in the video card industry, so when they say lifetime warranty they mean LIFETIME warranty, for the long haul.

That is correct. If your BFG card breaks and they don't make it any more, you'll receive the comparable card of the latest technology. So if you have a 5900NU that goes bad and it's been discontinued, you'll get the next best thing in its price range which would be the mid-range NV4x-based card.

Well then, methinks those cards would be pretty frickin' hot. :D

After all this I think I am going to go with the BFG. All it has to do is last a year or two the most before I upgrade anways. Going to grab one next week. Will follow up with an opinion.

Thanx all

I love my Evga e-Geforce FX 5900 Ultra go it when it first came out at $470 Its clocked at 500/900 and is like a rock when it comes to games. The funny thing is that I heard that its better than the new 5950. :D

My last dealings with ATI left a very bad taste in my mouth. I am just a die hard Nvidia person now. Plus I think the quaility of the hardware and drivers is better.

I personally can't wait however for 5700U's to come down to the *magical IMO* $130 mark so the last GF3 and low clocked GF4ti owners who are financially strapped finally have a decent stopgap card...
