Nvidia Problems in Slackware 8.1

Hello everyone,


I have been running Slackware 8.1 and have installed NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-3123.tar.gz -and- NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-3123.tar.gz.
Everything was fine after I installed the nvidia drivers. Then about a month after I installed the nvidia drivers I started having problems. After I logout of a window manager and return to a terminal I get Vertical white lines like my screen is distorted. I double check my XF86config file and made sure to have
Driver set to "nvidia" - and to remove all entries
Load "dri"
Load "GLcore" and Iv added Load "glx". Iv looked at all the logs there does not seem to be any problems I recently reinstalled slackware 8.1 and I still get the same problem. If anyone has any ideas it would be a big help.

hi, im running slackware 8.1 as well, running xfree86 4.2.0, kernel 2.4.19 anyway heres my xfree86 config file, and ive been running 8.1 sense it came out and ive had no problems. except i cant get 2048x1536, but from what ive seen no one can or they just wont respond to my post. lol i just tried to attach it and it didnt like it because it had no extension, i guess i have to put a .txt too it. ghetto.

I have downloaded the drivers from nvidias site. I grab the last version of the drivers and not the current and now it all works don't know maybe its a bug in the newer drivers.

Did you compile rivafb into your kernel, or is it a module? It should be left out completely. If you want "video mode selection support", "vga text console", and "frame buffer support", then the driver that you should be using for "support for frame buffer devices" is "VESA VGA graphics console" (these are the names of settings in menuconfig, I'm not sure about the other ways of configuring the kernel).

Or, if going back a driver version helps, then go ahead.
