have you all noticed how many people have problems getting nvidia
stuff going in the mentioned distros?

I'm just wondering about the reasons...

are those distributions really that bad, or is this related to the userbase?

there is so moch info in this forum and the docs but,
the same questions are asked over and over, without any effort from
those guys.

RH and Mandrake is usually what the n00b goes for 1st, so since there are more newbies on it, there are more issues...

I know that's what I went for 1st, and I had the growing pangs just like everyone else..heck I just finally got the nV drivers to install after trying over and over, and realized it was me, not the distro...

I was just curious, 'cause here in germany RH/Mandrake are not that widely spread.
I try to help where I can but reading the same questions so often is not that _cool_.

there are installation guides here in the forum, an excellent readme and so on. I welcome
every new user, _but_ for me (just IMHO) it looks like the most people try to behave like
using some _other_ OS from redmond.

well.. on my routing box and internet servers i have debian running but on the desktop i currently use i have mandrake :)

i think it's not important what you use as the "base" for your system .. the cool thing is to modify the system to what you want to have.. and theres no big difference if you do it with a mandrake, redhat, debian or whatever :)

actually there is a big difference, debian has a really clean build system,
most commercial software like Maya runs (or is certified) on RH.

/me dislikes RH based dists but that's personal. we don't need a "dist war"!

I was just wondering about some questions showing up again and again,
but I'm open to discussions

cheers
