Lets see, Native SATA support(finally), Gigabit Ethernet in 250gb, full 16bit 800MHz up/down HT links(on par with other chipsets now). Unsure about Soundstorm, I doubt there is any APU inside the 250, unless Nvidia suddenly makes the right decision.

No soundstorm - only soft audio.... It'll be at *minimum* a year before we might hope to see hardware audio again - and that's iff everything works out behind the scenes :( Release? well reference boards and final specs are now with the partners - it was shown at ceBIT - so prob a couple of months away.

Via will release new KT800 Pro or whatever to counter NF 3 250 ;) with HT 1000MHz so i heard

1000MHz HT should only be for S939.. the first Nforce 3 250's will be S754. Rumor has it that all S939 chipsets will have 1GHz Ht, and even that the processors will support DC DDR500.

So VIA using 1GHz HT on a S754 board wont do much.. if they had a single chip solution like nvidia, maybe a noticable something.. but their link to the south bridge isn't even HT.. upping the speed of that would be a better move for them to make on S754 IMO.

if Socket 939 & new Athlons gonna run at DDR500 speed plust HT1000 thats sweet , good thing i haven't waisted cash on current Athlons 64 :D

I'm really starting to look at the AMD 64. I've always been an Intel fanboy from day 1... I'd sure like to give these a whirl. But if it supports DC DDR500 without overclocking.. I'd surely get one (I already have the DDR 500, just scared I wont be able to OC the 64's FSB to match my memory)

The only thing i hope for in NF3 250 is locked PCI and AGP bus.

afaik they already have locked pci/agp bus...

via has claimed they will release a ci lock for their k8t boards (I'll believe that when I see it) but they are supposed to have agp locks in place already...

the nv3 250 will have GbE and 16 bit up/down but there are 2 versions.. I dunno which will do what...

there is a deluxe and a vanilla... might be the vanilla may not have GbE... not that it matters much...

some nforce3 150 boards don't have locked PCI it seems, whether that was on early boards and corrected i am not sure.

nF3 250 has integrated 10/100 Ethernet.

nF3 250gb has integrated Gigabit Ethernet ON-CHIP, where as other competing solutions use an external GbE chip that has to go through the slow PCI bus.

nForce boards use independant clocks for each part rather than dividing clocks. As such any partner that actually LISTENS to NV and even half follows their damn specs should have completely seperate, independant clocks that allows increase of FSB with NO effect on PCI/AGP/HT/etc

Some say they have, some say they don't. :)
But all i know is that my board starts to whine when i get over 224 MHz. :fu:

Overclock Features -ASUS JumperFree
-Memory, AGP voltage adjustable
-SFS(Stepless Frequency Selection) from 200 MHz up to 300MHz at 1MHz increment

That's ASUS's SK8N Overclocking Specifications off of their website. If that helps in the arguement any.

I am not sure where this DDR500 memory spec comes from, why do people think it will not be DDR400 ?

Is there even a JEDEC spec for DDR500 yet, if not then no DDR500 support from AMD is my guess.

Andy

ya that is totally true no jedic no memory.... amd can not afford to take a chance like that .... at those speeds there are soooo many timing issues

jedec top standard == ddr400...

The opteron half supported registered DDR400(many people got it working) before jedec approved it. The main reason i think they diddn't go against jedec and approve it was because the opteron is for servers, where that stuff matters a little more.

I agree DDR500 support isn't exactly set in stone at all.. i still see it as a 50/50 chance ATM.. Hopefully it will happen.. but it wont really benefit me if it does.. well unless DDR500 goes down enough in price for me to buy some more. I guess in 6 months+ i will have had this memory for a decent amount of time to consider an upgrade (hopefully 2GB by that time). If it doesnt support DDR500, then i will keep my DDR400 for as long as i can.. well until I get a system that supports faster memory, and when 1GB stick prices become reasonable.
