Here's our Call of Duty gameplay review by one of our new game reviewers, Brian. This is not intended to be an in-depth granular analysis rife with benchmarks and charts. This is an easy going review from a pure gameplay perspective.

Cool! Glad you liked it.
I enjoyed reading the review. :) Since completing the game I got a few chuckles over Brian's in-game observations and comments because I experienced similar. Good read...give you 4 1/2 stars out of 5. (hehe...)

I ran across this review while searching the web for material on Call of Duty. I did enjoy the review, but I wanted to follow up on some of the questions Brian had during the game.
I'm not only impressed by the realism, graphics, and gameplay.. the storyline was what has captured me the most. I found out that pretty much all of the missions were based on real missions during WWII. Based on actual events or battles that took place.
Throughout the entire game there were only a few times where I said, "Huh?" They mostly occurred in the Russian Campaign. During the first mission as a Russian, they only give you a clip to fight with, and then shoot you because you're not charging the Germans. Hey, if we've got enough guns to shoot each other, give us guns to shoot the enemy. That's not rocket science. Heck, that's not even remedial science, which is what I took in high school.
As for your "Huh's?" during the Russian campaign, you are deployed on the beach/dock to receive weapons. At the battle of Stalingrad, there was a severe shortage of rifles. There was one rifle given to every two men, which basically meant one soldier got a rifle, and the second soldier followed behind carrying bullets. If the first soldier died, the second then had a rifle to use. Go rent "Enemy at the Gates", you'll get a deeper appreciation for Russian snipers.
Another thing that made me scratch my head also occurred in the Russian campaign. They're praising me for my abilities as a sniper. So what do they do? They put me in charge of a tank. Then it hits me. Of course! Everyone who's good at a sniper rifle should be in charge of a tank. What? Why? I have no idea. I still don't. Must be why I had a hard time with remedial science in high school.

After the Battle of Kursk (largest tank battle in WWII), and the Russian counter offensive, new tanks were deployed, the T-34/85's. The battalions were only given 2 hours to train with the new tanks before they had to be rushed into battle. They did not have enough men to fill all the tank battalions, so they filled them with army regulars/soldiers from the submachine gun units.
Just an FYI. :)

A nice gameplay review, I did find the Stalingrad bit annoying. It's a shame it's not random wether you get a gun or not. Two great game reviews anyway, keep up the good work:cool:
Welcome!
Your comment was interesting:

I found this interesting as I was not sure for the reason but like you indicated CoD seems to be based on actual events throughout. Being a somewhat history buff on WWII I realized the different maps as having a direct corelation to actual events except for the tank battle. Thanks for the info, much appreciated. :)
I enjoy Brian's tongue n' cheek style of review. Hope you read his latest on X2.
