Yay or ney? :)
Im on my 3rd NVIDIA GeforceFX 5900 that was not what i ordered. i.e. It said 400/850 or 400/800 and i got a 400/700 card.
I dont trust sites now that have the 5900's listed with 850mhz memory, i cant be doing with yet another return.
I was just looking around and i saw a Leadtek 5800 (non-ultra of course :)) for £166! New.
Sounds a good deal, my 5900 cost £187...
How does the 5800 do nowerdays with the 5x.xx series of drivers?

it's like a 5700U. since most things aren't fill-rate limited, you probably won't see that huge a performance increase compared to a 5700U because of the 128-bit bus.
maybe just order from the States? heh

Hmmmm, but i thought the 5700U was 4x1 and the 5800 8x1 (well in NVIDIA's whacky idea of that anyway ;)). Makes no decent performance difference at all? :(
Dunno, at least i know what ill be getting. ;) Another AWFUL trend with 5900's now is the lack of Temperature Monitoring .
Looks like a 5700U or a 5800 then i guess...
ok, not like we trust 'em the most (but they were pretty straightforward tests and scores, you gotta admit), but THG's newest VGA charts do show what a 5800 can do... oh and btw, 5800 non ultra's can almost always clock to ultra levels, so basically look @ the 5800 Ultra scores... I think you'll likey...

well, the only game that I can think of off the top of my head that's fillrate (or geometry) limited is Savage. so, no, you probably won't see a huge difference (if one exists at all) between the 5700U and the 5800 because the bandwidth is the same.
Here http://www.compuplus.com/insidepage.php3?refer=nextag&id=1001829 comp-u-plus has the BFG 5900NU for $166  Makes me wish my notebook docking station had an AGP slot.
I have not heard a 5800 (ultra or non-ultra) that is not irritatingly loud, especially when idle. The 5900NU 400/700 isn't noticably slower than the 400/850 model, you might as well just stick with it. The 5900NU will toast the 5800 on DX9 games and if you use AA/AF.

Memory Clock : 440/900
I think I mentioned this before :)
My own expensive 5800 ( remember it from a couple of months back? )_ is still in one piece and not modded and is doing well in games at 450/1000. Definitely qucker in halo than the 5700U. Does 6500 in 3dmark03 and 20k in 2001 with terribly reduced LOD levels ( imagine a Volari on a good day ).
£166 sounds a good buy, shame we have to pay so much extra over the USA.

Come accross this today...
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=52368
Creative Labs 3D Blaster 5 FX5900 8x AGP DirectX v9.0 128MB DDR nVidia NV25 Chip 450MHz Core TV-Out DVI and MPEG-2 Decoding AGP
Hmmmmmmm, NV25?? 450Mhz Core?? Then the product information states...
The 128MB of 700MHz RAM works with a 256-bit core running at 400MHz
Don't online stores just really p*ss u off sometimes ;).

Ok, the store accepted the reason for return and are going to collect it from me when i arrange it.
Basically i need a new card now....
So i browsed through their site and saw,
AOpen Aeolus FX5900-DV128.
Now it was £140! And i was thinking.... whats the catch.....
I took a quick look around the web and it seems to be a fully fledged 5900. It certainly mentions no where its an XT... the store did say "obsoleted product" (they have 50 in stock though) when it was going through the system. Maybe im lucky and bagged the few remaining 'real' 5900's. ;)
To that fact, the stores i bougth it has Aopen Aeolus 5900XT graphics cards for sale, with a completley different manufactuers code... its also about £7 more! :S
I will wait and see when it comes, if its another 'dud' ill just return it and call it a failure - get a 5700ultra as cheap as i can. :) On the other hand if it does arrive and its 400/700 then i guess its not *too* bad as its like £40 less than i paid for the XFX... I will see. :)
This is what im *supposed* to have ordered...

There's a Gainward FX5900 at Komplett for £158, which looks like a 400/800 model if you Google it.
http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?action=info&sku=120648&p=&t=278&l=2&AvdID=1&CatID=24&GrpID=1&cks=PRL
(If that link doesn't work, just stick "FX5900" in the search box).
Some other places have the same card for well over £200...

Don't do it! Donot buy an FX5800, they are pretty much considered a failed product. They are overly noisy, and under powered. You are far better off with a FX5700U or FX5900SE (even at 700mhz memory!)

Even if you get yet another 5900SE/XT, there is absolutely no reason why you should return that and get the lesser 5700 Ultra. The 256-bit memory bus on the 5900 will make a world of difference, even though the SE has slightly lower clock speeds. I had a 5700 Ultra and a 5900 and the latter was superior in every way, shape and form, even in SE form.

Yeah it was money i was thinking of, it would be cheaper. Then i could just wait and see what arrived. :)
But i will most likley keep it, as long as the card has decent cooling. :)

My 5800ultra run at 590/1160 rock stable.
Can the non reach those speeds??

Brave man lol, when i got my 5800U a while back it was like £420! No way in hell was i going to go near any clock slider bars ;) hehehehe

A 5800 of any variety will be faster than a 5700U. It has twice the fill-rate...
at this point, I don't think that 5800 non-ultra's deserve at all to be ridiculed or called "bad deals"...
I think of them as vidcards that sit right between 5700U and 5900SE performance and sit right @ or under 5900SE price...
Best execution of a 128 bit memory interface equipped card. Period.
When 5800' sstart consistently hitting $150-$160, they will be scarfed up like Lardass' pies in Stand By Me... :p

No my 5900nu can't reach those speeds and doesn't have to because the 256 bit memory bus more than makes up for it. Although the 5900 is no slouch in the overclocking department either. I've said it before.. i'll take a wider memory bus over faster memory. This point was made very clear when the 5800Ultra went up against the 9700Pro a year ago and beat by the lower clocked 9700Pro.
I do think for a 128 bit card the 5800 is a monster though and got a unusually bad wrap. Most of it because of the dustbuster sitting on it, which was loud. But Nvidia should have designed it with a 256 bit bus from the start. They had to clock the 5800 so high out of the box because they knew they would have to compete with the 9700Pro's 256 bit memory bus.
Either way anybody looking to buy an Nvidia card now should go for a NV35 or up core.
