I never had such an awful experience until today....
Just because I went to andr (which has some pr0n popups), millions of popups started to appear!! I don't know why... It never happened!!
The Windows XP at work started to crawl (P3 700 128 Mb) and I couldn't even close the popups. Task manager didn't open :eek:, and right clicking worked 10% of the times.
So one End task window appears, and then all windows disappear... except one. :eek2: When I try to close it, again!!! IE Windows start to appear quickly!! Dammit!!!
So I now don't miss the opportunity and load the task manager, select all the popup IE windows and end them all...
Finally!!! Peace reached my desktop.
So now, time for Adaware!! It found 70 spy wares, including 5 folders that appeared in my program files folder.
Grrrrr!!!!!!!! :mad:

it isnt anything unusual with ie.
I use this. (http://toolbar.google.com/) The best tool bar I know of and it has a great popup blocker which is easy to turn off an on. No spy ware to my knowledge or at least Adaware doesn't consider it spy ware. Give it a try. Easy to uninstall.

I hate toolbars, but I gave the Google toolbar a try a couple of weeks ago and I will NOT cruise with IE without it now! I installed it on all my PCs and it has made internet cruising for the kids a LOT easier and less stressful. (You wouldn't believe how many pop-ups Nickelodeon has!)
Besides, it's damned handy to have a google search box there...I'm always using it.
A hearty seconded for the Google toolbar, an excellent utility. :cool:

I agree. I hate toolbars also but this one is great. I like the fact it actually uninstalls if you don't like it. :D
BTW notice in the pic above his status in Messenger is busy. LOL he is busy deleting the never ending cycle of popups. :p

Actually, I've seen worse with IE 5.5. It happened sometimes when trying to close a window during the loading of a website. What was fun is IE windows were appearing so fast they'd eat all CPU resource in 10 seconds or so (so I couldn't use the taskmanager) and it generally ended with a magnificient BSOD (in less than a minute). Ah, those were the days...:rolleyes:

The worst I ever got nailed by pop-ups was YEARS ago, I got hit with the original and nasty goatse pop-up attack that kept screaming "I'M A HOMOSEXUAL!!!! I'M A HOMOSEXUAL!!!!"
I think about 25 pop-ups nailed me before it locked and then shortly BSODed. (98 pre-se. :rolleyes: )

very good pop up killer......
Firebird:D
Come on, it won't bite.:D
Yikes...
After seeing that, I fear for my safety when using IE...
I seriously don't think IE is THAT bad... well at least for me.... I have 0 popoups, except for one or two which come up when logginf off my japanimation mail account.
BTW, where can I get FireBird? I wanna give it a try, see what all the rucus is about....;)

I agree with everything posted here. SPAM Suxx.
Imho, IE is the slowest browser of all.
Tuork. When you will try Firebird or Opera, you will never look back.
Firebird -> http://www.mozilla.org/projects/firebird/
Opera -> http://www.opera.com/download/
Versions:
Firebird -> 0.7 - incoming 0.8
Opera -> 7.23 - incoming 7.50
Everyone has its pros and cons. But both of them are a LOT MORE SECURE AND FAST than Internet Exploder. On the other side, you may encounter some sites that require IE to run. No problem.
EDIT:
COUPLE 'EM WITH A GOOD AD-BUSTER PROXY LIKE PROXOMITRON OR WEBWASHER AND YOU ARE ALL SET.

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.7a) Gecko/20040205 Firebird/0.8.0+ (daihard: XFT+GTK2; optimized for P4/SSE-2)

If you need help, http://forums.mozillazine.org/ is the place to go. You'll even see me there ;)
This sort of thing is common of any warez/mp3s/romz sites with voting or ranking systems.
When that starts to happen I just reach round the back of the PC and pull the network cable. Javascript can spawn 18 pop-ups a second, so its pretty hard to ALT-F4 fast enough to keep up with it.
This hasn't happened to be for a couple of years though, mainly because I just avoid those types of sites.
Pop-up blockers are nice, but I find them annoying when they block a legitimate pop-up. I use several sites (e.g. my credit card) that opens stuff in seperate windows.
BTW, yeah Proxomitron is the L33T h4x0rs tool. Its much more than a pop-up blocker, you can program it with your own regular expressions (if you are L33T enuf) to filter out pretty much anything.

I wish Intel would stop requiring IE for their site. It's lame to have to open IE every time I want to check for a BIOS update. :(
Mozilla Firebird does wonders. ;)

You mean "slozilla"? ;)
J/k, I hear it's pretty nice. I'm locked in with Opera though and don't intend to switch over unless something clearly better comes along. Only complaint I have about Opera is the JVM crashes sometimes (it's picky about which version you are using) and also the stupid manage your bookmarks bug.

Mozilla firebird is really the way to go, not only dose it block popup's but it just nativly DOSENT support all that active X bull**** that spyware installs though.
My friends 'parents' computer had a big spyware problem, so i reinstalled their winders, and then switched it over to firebird, and they dont have problems anymore. Most people are just to dumb and will install anything that pops up.

OMG, YES!!!! :rolleyes:
I just got done "fixing" a friends old PC. I used quotes because my "fix" consisted of booting into safe-mode and unchecking most of the BS that had installed itself to start up with windows, then I ran ad-aware and got rid of a BAJILLION infections, then the homepage hijacker got removed, then I installed the latest patches & hotfixes, then I tweaked it a bit.
Fixed and done in less than an hour, and it was never broke to begin with...it was just badly maintained. :(
What's worse is trying to explain what was wrong to the guy who dropped it off....he couldn't even figure out what operating system he had when I was talking to him over the phone! (WinF-INGme, :rolleyes: )

Ya, tehehe that is why I said Adaware does not consider it spyware, meaning it could very well be but Adaware does not recognize it as such. ;) :p
