That PS is really funny now consider how poor the FX shaders are. So keep this in mind before you blindly believe x2, x4, x7 ect :)

Good point, that graph shows the NV30 4x as fast as the old Geforce 4.

whats much more funnier it also shows it's at least 3 times faster in PS then 9700.....

I am sure the next gen will be faster and probably a lot fast in some cases. But when ANYONE starts with the x4 and on up I start to laugh. Its all too easy to come up with a non-real world test case that can show just about anything you want. But that PS graph is still funny :)

I doubt it will like this time round, surely they (NV) have learnt their lesson. I mean there are many websites out there who will take the NV40 apart to find out excatly whats going on etc. Same with R420 which Mufu (at beyon3d forums) says is now at its A12 revision. If that isn't a joke, thats an aweful lot of revisions.

If you look to the past this is not the case. Uttar post here says that they will most likely try to claim 16 pipeline design for example and if his info is correct then we know thats Not really the case. You can follow the root back to the TNT days were they annouce at one clock speed, but ship at a lower? No I amfraid that NV's PR game has not changed at all :(

Wow really, A12 now?! I wonder how many explainations could cover that... lol. Interesting..

Peace,

What's so funny about that?
Btw there is no "at least" mark on the graph, and the exact PS instruction mix is also unknown. It can be a result of a sincos test.

Yeah, even A10 easily exceeds 600MHz core clock. How about 750 MHz with A12? :rofl

That's true - prior to the texture lookup trick to get 0 cycle sin/cos on the R300 it would be approximately that much slower if just sin/cos was used and compared... would be an odd shader though... would only be for tick-mark/bragging rights.

well, i don't see anything about specific instructions used, it's made like NV30 is generally 3x faster then R300 in PS.....and we know how close to truth that is.

i guess you can always write shader that will run 3x times faster on NV30 then on R300, but that has nothing to do with real games performance....

Exactly. I will not be falling for any hype this time around. It also helps to know where I can get objective and true performance information.

To infer that nVidia's PS 2.0 performance is anywhere near ATI's in most DX9 games is terribly misleading, IMHO. I don't think we need to recap all the different reasons why, do we?

I hope NV40 is all that and pushes ATI to produce a better performing product as well. I also hope that the BS meter does not go off everytime a new 3D card review comes out as has been the case in the recent past.

In the past, ATI has always started at A10, so that A12 is only the third revision.

Try taking 10 revisions away from A12 ;)

Hard to say as I have no sources :D Better if Uttar, Mufu or Paul commented on that but if their are on A12 and it was rumoured that samples of r420 have been given to partners then this revision is probably whats going to be used for full scale production? If that is so, impressive...3 revisions is not bad compared to the 5-7 that it was rumoured the nv30 took! Mufu i think said nv40 is in its 3rd revision now as well.

Don't take the A12 thing too seriously, as it could mean something else. And yes, the NV40 will launch in its third revision (A2).
