NForce networking, GNOME, and Fedora Core 1

When I install the nvnet driver (through source RPM, or through tar.gz) I get the following error when loading GNOME:

Could not look up internet address for x1-6-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff. This will prevent GNOME from operating correctly. It may be possible to correct the problem by adding x1-6-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff to the file /etc/hosts.

(replacing ff-ff-ff-ff-ff-ff with my actual MAC address of course)

I can access the internet, but in all other cases, Fedora reports my hostname as being my MAC address as well (ie: when I type "hostname", in my prompt.

/etc/hosts includes the line "127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost"

I get this error regardless of whether iptables is running...

how can I fix this annoying error (or at least get it to stop displaying)?

Hmm, this is a complete shot in the dark but I had something somewhat similar to this and I fixed it (well temporarily) by open up xterm su root, redhat-config-network, then click on the eth0 controller and edit and then last (3rd) tab and probe mac address, then okay then try activating and see what that nets you.

I'll give it a shot, if my Gentoo install fails to get KDE up and running by the end of the week.

I really liked Fedora, It just didn't seem to like me.. :P

Gentoo seems to work well so far, except for this bug I'm having with installing KDE... There's something cool about having a system that's completely customized from the kernel up....

Yes I am thinking of trying gentoo as well, I feel that aura surrounding a custom build system heh, :cool:
