If, like me, you looked in the benchmark folder and found nothing yet wanted to benchmark, it's possible to do so. UT2004 is basically the same as UT2003 which has the same benchmark folder although it has some files. I copied the files from the UT2003 bennchmark folder into the UT2004 folder (I also had to copy of the contents of the sub-folder called stuff), modified the bat files so they would point to UT2004 instead of 2003, added the map names into the bat files, and they worked!! Well, mostly anyway: the flyboy benches don't work. When the flyby benches start up, you just sit there. You can use the movement keys to get around but it's worthless for benchmarking. The botmatches work great there. I even made a bat file that starts all maps in botmatch so it's easy to benchmark (just click on that one bat, all the maps will be played/benchmarked).

You can do the above if you want to benchmark or...

I zipped up all the files and made them available for download. Go here to do it:

http://webpages.charter.net/smithcm/ut2004/ut2004_benchmarks.zip

This zip file includes the flyby benches, but as I said above they don't work for whatever reason. To use, find the folder UT2004 was installed to (it installs to C:\UT2004 by default). Go to the subfolder called benchmark and unzip this file to that folder. You might get prompt saying a file/folder is being overwritten, let it overwrite it. The stuff subfolder is empty when you install UT2004. This ZIP file includes the stuff subfolder with some files in it so it needs to be overwritten. That's it. Just double click on a file to start a benchmark. To run all the benchmarks, double click on the file called botmatch-all or something like that. Again, the flyby benches don't work, no idea why. Maybe someone here can figure out why?

Let's start the benchmarking goodness!! Below are my scores from the file called lowframerate.txt. I'm using an AMD 2700+ system with a 333 FSB, 9800 Pro 128 Meg vid card, an Audigy 2 soundcard, Windows XP, and 1 meg of RAM. The ingame settings: 1280*1024, 3d & EAX Audio, all settings maxed out. 2x FSAA and 4x performance ANSIO enabled in video drivers. Using Catalyst 3.10's (4.1's give me problems in Call of Duty!! Grrr...).

Oh wow, I'm famous. Thanks digitalwanderer!

As far as linking goes, I don't mind nor do I think it will be a problem. I think my ISP, Charter.net, allows up to 100 simultaneous connections. I don't think there is any bandwidth limits or anything like that. The file is small anyway (just 10-15 small text files) so it shouldn't be a problem. May not hurt to grab the file and mirror it somewhere just to be safe. If the file disappears or anything, it's easy to copy the old UT2003 stuff and fix them up to benchmark UT2004. I mainly did this for the peeps who don't have UT2003.

I'm glad you put this up in a public place Digital. Hopefully someone will read it and figure out what's the deal with the Flyby's. I looked at them for a bit this morning, couldn't figure out why those don't work. :(

Have fun all!!! :)

You kidding? This is a big thing you did and you're going to make a whole lot of people happy, thank you! :) (BTW-I submitted it over at Warp2search too, so I think some people may notice... ;) )

I got the files, if your server goes down I'll be happy to host 'em. Like you said, they're small and it shouldn't be a thang with bandwidth. (It's a hell of a lot easier than hosting a beta set of drivers or a beta XP service pack or something, those can be a freaking NIGHTMARE to deal with!!! )

Again, my thanks. I'm gonna go and actually try it out now. :)

No offense we know that the bot matches are primarlly CPU limited. None the less nice find.

my scores with default clocks on cpu/gpu and f@h in background...

-edit- and yes I agree with jbirney... it does seem a little cpu limited...

as is I am playing the demo @ 16x12 with a little af and no noticeable frame-rate hit... which is good :)

seems my gfx card has some legs left in it yet :)

Ya, great find cms!!! :D Very pretty looking to sit back and watch. I haven't done anything yet, just left my settings the way I have been gaming so far. I get better average FPS I feel in the maps in which it ran incredibly slow. Still fun no less. :D Currently @ 1024x768 / Game Settings Maxed / 2xAA/4xAF. First run, think I flubbed up though by hitting record or screen capture by accident with fraps. I have to check...lol, Oops. :o

Damn fine benchmark numbers there fellas!! Sazar's particularly has me drooling. I'll be moving to an Athlon 64 FX when the 939 pin versions come out. Those scores are nice to say the least.

I'm still trying to figure out how to get Flyby benches to work. No go. :(

Someone earlier said the benches are more CPU limited than anything else. I might have to agree. I didn't realize this, but when I first ran the benches, it was using default clock settings in my vid card. I overclocked it and my scores barely went up. Wow...

Thanks for mirroring the file Malfunction. I don't think there will ever be a problem, but you never know.

Thanks for the mention on the frontpage Muya. It really wasnt' that big of a deal though.

I hope someone can look at those files and see if they can get the flyby's to work. That's annoying.

Have fun all!!

Forget the UT2k4 benchmarks, I wanna know how you managed this:

"I'm using an AMD 2700+ system with a 333 FSB, 9800 Pro 128 Meg vid card, an Audigy 2 soundcard, Windows XP, and 1 meg of RAM ."

1 Meg of RAM!!! That is awesome.

Seriously, good work. I tried the same thing with UnrealEd but the executable is missing some command hooks and dies.

We should remember, too, that this demo is running on all cards with only medium texture detail. That's why we're seeing scores that are more CPU limited. I'm sure once high resolution textures appear in the final game we'll see scores that more accurately reflect a video card's abilities.

Nevertheless, great work cms. Welcome to the board and don't be a stranger! :)

Forgot to mention while I was digging around the .ini files I saw that the game has Direct3D rendering settings for D3D( I presume DX8.1) and D3D9. When you try to enable D3D9 you get an error that files are missing. I wanted to see how the demo would perform on my 9800XT in DX9 but we will have to wait, I guess.
