I purchased a 5900 se card from evga. Love the card so far except, I keep getting this messege..http://webpages.charter.net/jambolias/FXpowerproblem.jpg
Any helpful ideas??? Running a 500watt power supply, Win xp pro, Amd xp2500+,corsair PC3200 CAS2 512,Audigy 2 zs....
For starters what make is your power supply? If its a cheaper one chances are you not getting the power you need. The Amps needed to power it might not be there. What other things do you have connected to it. Couple of CD/DVD drivers, hard drives etc...?
you DO have the molex 4 pin connector plugged in on the card, right?
In addition to what Ragejg asked, ensure the 4-pin power plug is connected to the board and I would suggest dedicating one drop from the psu connected only to the card. There should be at least 3 seperate drops (lines with molex connectors) coming from the psu. You might check your +12V rail to see if sufficient power is being supplied. The best check to see if the psu is weak is simply trying a different psu, if you have access to one.

That power dialog appears when the GPU overheats as well as when it's not getting enough power. So says a fellow on the NVIDIA driver team.
To wit, one of my machines with a FX 5900 Ultra engineering sample displays that dialog when the case is closed, but never when the case is open. Does not appear to be power related, nor driver version related.
There were some known problems with some 5200 ultras displaying that screen even when the power is in...
Make sure the power is plugged in all the way, then reinstall latest drivers to see if any one of those fixes your problem.

I have connected to PSU, 1 cd/rw, 1 dvd rom, 5 60mm case fans, 2 hard drives. I do not think that should be enough stuff to hurt the power to video card. Is there anyway to tell if the card is getting to hot? And software program to tell temp on GPU? And would a better cooler for it help out? Also I am running clock speeds at 433 core 795 memory speeds.

Well I am ashamed to let you guys know this.. And not sure how I did not see this b4. I found my GPU cooling fan was not working at all. I took the V-card out and cleaned it out good and took fan apart and applied a small drop of light oil. And low and behold it works again!! No more messeges at all. Now other question is, where do I find these programs I see in the forums that shows GPU temps? And also what would be a good aftermarket cooling fan for this card if this fan should fail all together?

You can check your GPU temps in Nvidia's control panel. Regarding another cooling solution, I think there was a thread (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24638) about this here last week.

I don't see anything that shows me the temps. Is this something extra I have to download?? I was using the Omega drivers prior to nvidias drivers. But nothing in that set either..

First of all, don't bump a topic two hours after you post - bad forum ettiquite. Second, the temperature monitoring option is located in the NVIDIA driver control panel, on the left side there should be an option called "Temperature settings" or something to that effect. It will display current temperature.

First of all I am sorry for my bad forum etiquette. Not trying to cause any problems here. Just trying to learn more about this new card I have purchased. And second, I don't have any Temp stuff in the nvidia control panel. I downloaded the newest Forceware drivers. I must be on the (Noob) top of list. lol
Like Sat said it is on the left side of the panel...I think you may have to click on a tab (to the left) for it to become visible. All your settings are located in this section such as Quality/performance, color settings, gamma, etc. Also, by activating Cool Bits you can set your timings which will be located in this same section after activation. Don't have my Nv card in right now or I could direct you to it better.

Sorry guys, mine does not have that at all. I have clicked and poked around everything so far. I have the coolbits enabled now also. Here is a screen shot so you can see for your self..

Does anyone think there could be something wrong with the temp sensor on the card? If he had to clean the fan out for it to run then maybe something happened to the sensor. The option should still be there I would think???

i have a creative 5900se and i dont have the temp sensor either as it the same as the msi card i can see a pattern developing
ps i also dont have the auto overclock feature in the new beta dets from gwainward so im guessing that uses the temp sensor 2

Is that same as what I have then, 5900SE ??
Also is it still possible to flash bios to get a 5950 from what I have now? seen a few guys that have than done, just not sure whats all involved in that.
This was answered over on evga's forum by an evga tech. The 1st 5900SE's had temp sensors but newer ones do not.
As for the XT - SE thing.
5900 XT = 380/680 (core/memory)
5900 SE - 400/700
I think evga is the only one to make SE cards. Haven't heard of another.

I forgot about the BIOS flashing bit. I personally would NOT do it to an XT or SE. These have slower memory that I doubt could handle & 200mhz + OC, unless you got very, VERY lucky.

I tried on my card, and even though my ram runs fine at 950, my core couldnt handle 475, it handles 450 fine, so I just OC :)

I have just bought a Creative Blaster 5 FX5900 128MB, and also had that power warning pop up. I could be my 400W psu, but disconnected a fan or two and haven't had the warning since. However since then I have added a fan and disconnected my cd-rom drive because it died........:)
Also on this Creative card, the temp sensor is not wired up so I guess that is why the gpu temps down't show up on the control panel.
Apart from than I am happy with the card. It is a bit slower than other makers FX5900's but plays UT2003/4 just great which is all I am worried about.....:)
It replaced a GF3 Ti200 64MB...........so I guess I should notice a bit of difference....:D
