I don't know, but judging by its name, I'd guess it should be equiped with a nv34 with higher clocks or a nv36 with lower clocks...
OK, I've no idea.

I'm pretty sure it's an NV31 with lower clocks. It uses the Anti-aliasing and Anisotropic systems from the FX5600 card, so while it's basicly a replacement for the FX5200 it will have all the features of the high-end FX series, and hopefully be a bit faster. It wouldn't take much extra speed to make it a good card, even the FX5200 is fairly fast for a low-end card, if they can make a sub-$100 card with the performance of a TI4200 and the features of the FX series, it would be a good deal indeed.

i agree egde. the 5200 is an okay card and the ultra was not that bad for budget. its a chip that thrives on higher clock speeds. makes me wonder why that one wasnt used for the 5600. anyway., it will; be interesting to see the specs and such since the nv40's are on their way out the door. and how bout doom being optimized for nv3X cards!! woohoo!!

i cant wait to seee some benches on the 5500.

I now call on the almighty MIKEC... :p

maybe he can help clear this up... :)

No word on what kinda derivative it is ut most likely a NV31 derivative..hmm maybe a nv34 derivative..dunno but, the clocks are 200mhz core and 400mhz (ddr) memory. Take a look at the front page and follow the link. They even have benchmarks for it.

those benchmarks didnt make any sense. they had 1, 1.5, and 2 on the left of the graph. what r those for?

Thats with respect to the ATI card they benched it against

oh okay. they should have solme regular benchies for us to compare them to ati and to our own stuff. but those days will come soon enough. when is that card going to be available again? i dont want one but i want to know when to keep an eye out for benches.

True but I think this the best they can do under NDA....

I dunno if it has been officially announced by NVIDIA yet.

But Galaxy are making their 5500 with 3.6ns BGA memory modules...specifically done to cater the mainstream overclockers.

Galaxy says soon...how soon? dunno :(

NVIDIA_NV34.DEV_0326.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500"

You can forget about 5500, it's a NV34 based core. :rolleyes: :o

A better buy for low-end value cards would be the 5700LE or VE.

NVIDIA_NV36.DEV_0343.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700LE"
NVIDIA_NV36.DEV_0344.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700VE"

As you can see, these are NV36 cores.

Yeah, it's not really even an official product yet so info on it is slim. Hopefully Nvidia will make an official announcement soon so that we can verify that we aren't just hallucinating this :p

so nvidia has nothing to do with this card? this is nutty

They have eveyrthing to do with it. Just hasn't been officially launched or mentioned by them. NV are catering to the lower end of the mainstream and budget markets by overloading them with new options. Heck a GF PCX 4300 was launched today...dunno if that is a GF4 ti or GF 4 MX on PCI express.

Aww, crap. It was supposed to be made of the leftover NV31 chips. I wonder where those NV31 chips are going to go. After all, NV31 was only a short time on the market and didn't sell well before it got replaced by the FX5700. Well, maybe nVidia didn't manufacture too many of the NV31 cores, if they predicted the low sales beforehand.

i guess this kind of makes sense cause they gotta get rid of inventory beofre the nmew rush of nv40's.

What are you talking about?
They are still selling tons of FX5600 and FX5600XT cards.
At least with a higher volume than NV36 based products.

If the FX5500 is a NV34 based product does anyone know if it is manufactured on 0.15 technology like the original NV34 or on 0.13?

If it is 0.13 - damn that would be a great move. They could sell that product at a damn low price or get better margins out of it.

and it would be overclocking friendly

Surely if it moved to 0.13 process wouldn't have a new core name, not NV34 which is based on 0.15.
It sounds just like a renamed FX5200

This is the final offering (After SE, XT, etc) from nVidia that will finally push the ATi 9200 to extinction.

Its a gf4mx (http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce4mx.html) with a bridge chip.

Likely a gf4mx4000
