Software Firewall performance

okay, you can see my signature file and my pc is plenty fast. well, if i get mvafee personal firewall, do you think my performance would suffer at all? i LOVE speed. i have mcafee virus scan 8.0 and it works great.

I doubt it will make any difference. Probably no noticeable performance hit- esp with that 1gb of ram you have. I've been running a symantec firewall for 2.5 years on multiple pcs, 256 and 512mb ram and haven't ever had a performance issue. Don't know how your mcaffee will run, but my firewall service does suck up about 7.5mb.

I wouldn't worry about it. It shouldn't slow you down at all.

I'd like to know the answer to this question also. I have run software and hardware filewalls and havn't noticed any performance change. I did however run another DSL protocol supported by the telco here and I did get a performance decrease of almost 3%. That protocol added another layer to the packets, not just a filter to the existing ones.
