Okay, I am going to start right off the bat by saying I don't know as much about PC's as most people, but I know a fair amount. And I don't want any flaming for this topic. My uncle put a DELL PC together for my family and he threw in a GeForce FX 5200 AGP 128 mb card, just because that was the best option (the others were the dell integrated graphics, or a $400+ Radeon 9800)and a very good price. Now I would really like to know if this card is pretty good in playing games in general. I don't care about have all the Anti Aliasing and stuff (I would like to do atleast 2X though) and all the other big bells and whistles, I would just like the game to look generally good. So I would like to know if I will be able to run most games existing now and ones that are coming out in the future (obviously not at there highest settings though). And I would also like to know how to overclock the card so I can get the most out of it.

I would really appreciate help on my predicaments.

P.S. My PC specs are in my sig.

Thanks!

Tim

I do well with mine in games. Generally I am running 2xAA and 4xAF @ 1024x768 in everything I play:

UT2K3
UT2K4 Demo
MotoGP2
Desert Combat
Battlefield 1942
Call of Duty
FarCry Demo
Warcraft III
Madden NFL 2K4
C&C Generals

Though mine is a 128bit Memory bus 5200 Ultra. 64bit version will suffer greatly.

Peace,

luckily mine is a 128 mb eh? And if I can overclock it I may be able to get it to be equivalent to an Ultra, I have read that may people did that. Well I am happy to know that you can run those games, especially Far Cry!

How does Far Cry look on you PC anyways!?

Doesn't matter if it has 128MB, it could still only be 64bit.

For instance:

CHAINTECH nVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-bit (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-145-067&catalog=48&depa=1)

vs.

CHAINTECH nVIDIA GeForce FX5200 Video Card, 128MB DDR, 128-bit (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-145-042&catalog=48&depa=1)

Both cards have 128MB of DDR, only one is 128bit

Peace,

If it's a 128bit card, then it should run almost any game at 1024x768 just fine. You might be able to use 2xAA or so in most games, but a few newer ones will probably be to intense for it with those settings. Just make sure you don't run games in full DX9 mode, run them in DX8 and it'll be just fine (heavy DX9 effects cut the performance in half, or more...)

For overclocking (and tweaking), I use Rivatuner, it works WONDERS.

I had a 5200 with 64bit memory bus for about 3 days then solded it in a hurry. The 64 bit bus really hurts performance I even tried running 3DMark '03 what a joke that was :).

A 1! What setup did you run that on?

Hey guys. I thought my 5200 was the 128bit memory one but now I'm not too sure.
It's an MSI "FX5200-TD128"
MSI site lists the spec for this card (it's the one with the large black passive heatsink) but don't say whether it's 64 or 128 bit memory. There are three models below it which I would imagine are 64 but I'm not too sure about this one.
On my system it gets just over 50003d marks (01) and seems to play all of my games just fine.
I've googled but can't seem to find the answer I'm looking for.
Any insight would be most appreciated.

Athlon XP 1800+
ECS K7S5A Pro Rev 5
512 MB PC 2100
MSI GeForce FX 5200
Soundblaster Audigy Platinum
Hauppauge WinTV Go FM
NEC USB 2.0 card
Dual Format DVD burner
16x DVD ROM
80GB WD SE HDD

Well I hate to tell you this but the TD is the 64bit version. The other model from MSI is awesome with 128bit 3.6ns memory that clocks at 600mhz. :afro:

Here is the link you requested http://www.msicomputer.com/product/vga/vga_detail.asp?model=FX5200_TD128

This is the other 5200 card from MSI (my new PC should have this card or one from abit) http://www.msicomputer.com/product/vga/vga_detail.asp?model=FX5200-VTD128

Well, I don't see anywhere in that link where it says it's 64 bit. Anyway, even if it is, it still plays all the games I want it to very well and it doesn't have a fan so I'm still very happy.
edit: Why TF does the 128 bit card have a heatsink on the GPU just because it's got 128bit ram? It's the same speed GPU! I hate that! They do it just for show and all it does is create another whiney source of noise which will fail.
Jeez...
stupid card companies.

And that's all that matters :P

Yeah, I guess some people will make fun of it but I only paid $70CANADIAN for it and it's got no fan which is important for this quiet PC. It plays all of my games. I think it's got a whoopbut $/awesomeness ratio.
Besides, this has to be the only GeForce FX which isn't limited by its shaders :udawg:

Have you tried the farcry demo? How well does it run on the card?

Uh...haven't tried. NFSU runs perfect with all eye candy including motion blur on.
UT2K4 runs perfecly at 1024x768 full detail.
Tacops runs perfectly of course (it ran fine on a voodoo 3 3500 :P)
Those are really the only games I've played since I bought it. *I JUST bought it*
