"We believe that's around the time when 64-bit clients will be relevant," he said. Offering the feature too early, he said and "you end up spending more money for a feature you don't need to use."
Dsperate damage control? first theres no need for 64 bit and now its coming in 2 years.
had everybody believed intel we wouldnt get any 64bit - they dont like innovations and development costs, aka competition (M$ and DLL HELL anyone)
Maybe AThlon64 users (the FX and 939 socket ones) get nice small apps to test out like a 64bit lame encoder:

AMD will carve the way for 64bit and get some fun while at it.
Instead of posting links to useless hype why not get some common sence out there? Would that be a good newspost?

Because there are idiots who believe and their stocks depend on this bull****, I saw it rise after they said 64 sux and now couple weeks later when they say 64bit Intel cpu coming it rose some more, LOL!!!
What was patheitc was that link on the front page saying how everyone who bought an A64 FX wasted their money. First, why only A64 FX? And my main point is, the FX-51 was the fastest x86 processor available at it's launch, why it is suddenly a stupid decision to buy one just because something it diddn't even use to take this crown is said to be irrelevant by a bunch of people who only care about influencing stock buyers.

Does anyone know if Microsoft's "Longhorn" will have a 64bit Edition? As it is now, 64bit XP will be the only 64bit OS from MS and that doesn't sound very promising about the future...
Any info would be much appreciated!

Still no 64bit Longhorn beta leaks. (aaa)
Though I did find this and some of you may find this amusing:

Ok, I finally found something...lol. Though all of the beta leaks thus far have been 32bit Longhorn versions only:
http://www.theregister.com/content/51/35654.html
Describing the shift from the server environment to the mainstream client as a "big jump", Bill Siu, general manager of Intel's Desktop Platforms Group, admitted that the process of recompiling device drivers and the like for a 64-bit desktop PC would take "some time to complete".
He said Intel expects to see a Windows OS delivering "comprehensive 64-bit support in the Longhorn timeframe".
That puts the arrival of 64-bit addressing in the Pentium 4 sometime around 2006 - and possibly even as late as 2008, if you believe the prognostications of analysts like Gartner.
Peace,
