I hope this is true!

i do too! nvidia needs to show ATI that nvidia is still on top. and nvidia needs to be great since i cant buy 3dfx hardware anymore! boo!
considering the r3xx series had a smaller tranny count than the nv3x lineup... basing the argument purely on number of tranny's may be misleading...
:)
ps 3.0 support is perhaps another reason for the tranny count to be high as well.. since nv claims full support for it afaik...
can't wait for the 2 of them to drop :)
its been over a year since the last significant silicon hit the market...

Keep in mind NV also claimed 8 pipelines on the NV30...and well...yea...
dang... so they're gonna go from 4x1 and 4x2... to 8x2 ? That's a nice leap! Boy I'm glad I'm still using the GF4TI and didn't jump on the FX5900 wagon... heh heh

Better start saving those pennies then. Curse new technology and my desire to own it. :mad:

Ummm... wasn't NV30 125 Million Transistors (http://www.nvnews.net/previews/geforce_fx/index.shtml) and if so, you are suggesting NV40 w/205 - 210 Million Transistors would make it just compliant with P.S. 3.0?
That's an extra 80 - 85 Million Transistors for just that? Hmmm... interesting indeed. :)
Peace,

205 transistors... HOLY CRAP THAT THING IS GONNA RUN HOT :firedevil
should I install an air conditioner for the NV40 ?:p

Do you really think nv can go from 4 pipes to 16 pipes with those 80 - 85 million transistors?

I dunno, that is what I am waiting to find out. :D I was just thinking about the R300 w/ 110 million transistors vs. the R420 with (according to anandtech) 160 million transistors. That being a difference of 50 million, then you have Nvidia with +30 - 35 million more than that! :eek:
Just curious as hell as to what that means. :)
Peace,
:afro:
Edit - The NV40 would be nearly double the transistor count of the R300 alone!!! :eek:
this is where someone writes something like.. "It's not the size, it's how you use it."
I'm getting a big dejavu of the pre 9700 - pre nv30 release period here. It would be great if a card lived up to all this hype, but I just don't see it happening.

My take: it uses 8x2 on PS 2.0/3.0, single-texturing it is 2x2, multi is 4x2

nvidia needs to get away from all this 8x2 and things like that. they need to have it in the hardware of 16 pipes. using the drivers to work at 8x2 is never going to be as efficient as a true 16

With the outpouring of press releases from nVidia Corporation lately, this newest tidbit of ''news'' will surely work wonders on the enthusiast masses.
Let the games begin.

Yeah, but do they really have the balls to pull off a PR stunt like that again? :D
But of course the feeling i have in my big saggy gut is that 16x1 just ain't possible.

I guess itll be 16x1 the same way the NV30 was 8x1...:D LOL(foshiz)

Which would mean, 8X2 or 16X1. ;) Thats double the supposed pixel pipeline arrangements of the nv3X. Which would mean it could process 2 quads per pass depending on the OPs being performed. ;)

Becuase this is the HRM, I will ask this...
Could this news potentially be a reason why "Guillemot Withdraws from Graphics Cards Markets (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/video/display/20040225175707.html)?"
Again, just speculating because there apparently isn't a answer as to why.

Scenario 1
NV30 = 125 MT ( huge heat problems )
R300 = 110 MT R300 wins in DX 9
now different scenario 2 is
NV40 = 205/210 MT ( without low-k , more limitations )
R420 = 160 MT ( with low-k high core less heat )
( looks very familiar to scenario 1 :rolleyes: only time will show )
Haveing real 16 pipe card would be a killer , but knowing Nvidia its only from 4/8 core move to 8/16 mix .
You know Ed's editorial on his trip to BFG. He wrote that BFG's representative told him that NV40 would..ish be a new GPU from the ground up. So just maybe, comparisions to NV3X is not valid? I dunno. I hate waiting till the NDA expires like u guys do too! :D

Nvidia should maintain the previous trend:
- Huge card with double dustbuster;
- 1 Agp slot + 2 pci;
- You can have a big head but doesn't mean you're intelligent;
- Reinforce the case with steal ( too heavy);
-Buy the best electrical generator to be plugged directly to the card (nuclear one);
-Should be loud and clear (200dB)
I'm just kidding..... maybe not!
:D
mmm.. its to early to celebrate ,im going to wait for the official announcement and reviews because ,16pipes +210million transistors and probably 256megs or more of expensive ram.that not only is ambitious ,but should be very expensive ,-IF- the information in the InQ is true.
if the card cost $700+ and a way more,then the card main purpose will be just for bragging rights and marketing . any company can do a 16pipes ,32,64pipes with 500 millions transistors video card. the biggest challenge is not the size ,nor the features ,neither the speed ,(many companies will be happy to pay BIG thousands for graphics hardware that improve their simulators)but to design a card that is fast ,that fits in a pc case with tons of features and that can be sell to gamers and its profitable is a diferent story. ;)
It could be 16 pixels per clock at just Z and stencil, and 8 pixels per clock in PS3.0 and texturing modes. This would make it absolutely fly in Doom3, twice the stencil fill-rate of R420 (clock for clock).
