which of these to will be less of a load on my CPU? a soundblaster live MP3+? not the 5.1. or usinbg the nforce audio i have. its a nvidia mcp ultra 400 southbridge, with CMI 9739/a codec.

I think that the nforce2 onboard would use less CPU power, but the difference would be negligible anyway.

Isnt soundstorm the MCP-T? and dont you have to connect via digital to even use it? If you are playing games, the SBLive IMO is still a good card, I had one for about 3 yrs without any problems.

Nope u don't have to use digital out. Analouge works fine for me. 5.1 on speakers on me zalman headphones.

Digital out is for pure Dobly digital surround thing.

You do have to use digital-out if you want the Soundstorm chip to do all the processing. When you use analog, it uses up CPU cycles as the sound is sent to the AC97 CODEC for DAC processing.

I had no idea about that, So means I borked and using extra CPU cycles? ah poop. Something new u learn everyday

Eh it's very few cycles, nothing a modern CPU can't handle.

I take it you have yet to play a game with good sound? Try Ravenshield for example ;)

BTW MUYA don't forget soundstorm does dolby prologic on the stereo (analog front speakers only) out as well. Thus if you have an older home theater system you can use it. And yes it still uses the DAC's then, but soundstorm does all the mixing to get prologic, and it does work I tried it just for fun as well as my digital out.
