Seems that ppl in xtremesystem forums have borked a fair few K8s because the K8s seem a little tempremental on overclocking. Someone there theorized that the on die mem controller may be the problem. They think the higher FSB borks the on die mem controller. Probably why we haven't seen aggressive clock increased models from AMD. I was hoping for athlon64 4000+ already in some shape or form. Maybe 90nm k8s will really be where it's at. I will wait till then :D

And there are games out there that don't require top-end CPUs you know.

I know, thats fine if you want to pay more than I did and have a slower rig than I do as well :D

Reguardless, there are other solutions to low noise than the way you're doing it.Zalman has many product's for people like you.

Meh. Overclockers think that they're the only game in town. Kinda childish IMO.

I'm not disinterested in performance, it's just that as far as I'm concerned performance is only one part of the trade-off. Noise is another element. [/B]

LOL "childish" "trade off", perhaps I should regress my machine so I can be a grown up. Maybe I'll remove some of the spark plugs from my car too...LOL.
I never said anything about (anyone) needing to overclock. If you look at my spec's, you'll see that all of my PC's are not overclocked, so no I don't think it's "the only game in town". IMHO underclocking is just a cheap and incorrect way to build a quiet PC, and to brag about it in a thread about new products, that many of us are waiting for (in my opinion) is just thread crapping. Chances are that eventually your going to have to give up "underclocking", as future component's are going to be generating even more heat, and (as it seems) you've run out of cooling solutions. Were not going to get away with cheap component's to run modern apps anymore, and if your not running 3ghz now, does that mean you never will?. The noise solutions are out there, so what's your real reason for underclocking?.
:)

Yea, AMD's just don't seem to clock like they used to. It seems as though every increase in speed is really pushing it for them. Which is the main reason I went with the Vapochill. I missed the old day's. Now I have to get a $100.00 adapter just to run a K8. So I wait.... Maybe the mature stepping's will be better. Maybe we are comming to the end of conventional cooling (considering the amount of heat in one spot is increasing, as the size gets
smaller). ;)

Dude out of interest how loud is the vapochill? I am sick and tired of Loud fan noises etc. :(

I sure would love to buy a watercooling setup though, water chill or swiftech etc. Shame they cost the same as a new CPU!!! :D

35db at factory settings. Fan speed for the condenser fan (120mm) and one other fan that You can install to any location that you want, can be increased in speed through a new windows based utility.
I chose to add another 120mm to the rear of the case to allow better cooling to the compressor. I think of my Vapo as an investment that paid for itself the minute I started it up (considering that I've been running at 2.58GHZ for 9 Months now). You can add 2 80mm or 1 120mm to the front and 3 50mm (odd size) to the rear. Anyone considering a Vapochill, I say go for it. they're awsome. I've got mine blowing pretty hard (90% 120mm fan speed) but I can do 2.5GHZ at stock setting's too. the last .8GHZ really want alot out of the Vapochill.:D

Bummer, I was there when in the sevice (1986 briefly), ended up with a tattoo from kowloon. Cool place though. Ate at the jumbo floating resturaunt.

Anyway: Here's where I got mine.

Unfortunatly, the Vapochill isn't light. I belive you can see the shipping charges by creating an account (if I read the FAQ right).
I know, it's probably not feasable to pay for the shipping.

1986? I was in Form2 then! :D U OAP!!! :D

Did they cook/fry/flamboet the shrimps while still alive right in front of u? Nasty!!

Well dude USD$800 for the kit for starters...a no go already! :D

Well I hope in the future the watercooling kits will be sold in HKG. Like the Waterchill or Swiftech or Koolance ones.

No, but they brought a 15 course meal that was really cool. that was the first time I had prawns with leggs still on, since then I haven't minded it.
