View Full Version : nForce audio on RH 8
Hi,
I've (finally) gotten through the installation of RH 8.. And I've installed the nVidia drivers and the nForce drivers..
BUT! There isn't any sound!? The system finds the "soundcard" (nForce onBoard) but I can't play musik files etc.
Can anyone help me?
Are you trying to play music through XMMS? Does it continuously pop up the Select File dialog?
If you are, then there's no MP3 codec installed; you can get it at www.xmms.org
No I think he's talking about the nearly impossible task of getting nforce sound to work properly on RH80. (the xmms rpm provides the MP3 codec) I've spent several days trying to contruct a modules.conf that pleases all the applications that call sound on RH80 in both gnome and kde. No joy. My /var/log/messages file is full of errors. The system can't find char-major-13. Then it can't find char-major-13-64. If I use a alias for sound-slot-0 I get errors about sound-slot-1 not being there. If I use and alias for sound-slot-1 the reverse happens.
I'm going back to RH7.3 and waiting for 8.1 to come out. This is a typical even number release for Red Hat. It's busted and we're the beta testers.
