Thanks for keeping an open mind ChrisRay. This site needs as many of our regulars to stay as we can get. I really hate to see it go too far downhill, to the point that there are practically no posts from one day to the next (points to the matroxusers web site and forums, which has practically died off since Matrox gave up on real enthusiast hardware and all its regulars went to nVidia and ATI:().

I'm sure dw is just put off by the loss of so many of the other regulars, but as has been proven by the few recent posts he's made, he still visits here, just without as much interaction. (Probably disagrees with some of the recent actions, like many of us, and wants to stay out of it to preserve his dignity and respect:D).

Dignity? Respect? LOL. Hey trust me, if the guy is 37 years old he doesn't need to preserve anything. If he hasn't already established dignity and respect for himself and/or others it aint ever gonna happen. On the other hand if he already has, then I am 100% certain he is not concerned about losing it. That's what makes you a grown-ups kiddies.

My guess is that his problem lies with having to cope with children that actual try to find respect and/or authority here since they cannot seem to do it in the real world. As a site gets more popular, inevitably people who have worn out their welcome at some other site, pop in and deliver the same garbage babble and underdeveloped teen testosterone they superfluously pissed on the previous site. (XBitlabs anyone?)

It's quite sad because some people find comfort in forums like this as a wind down from a long day or a draining week of work and family duty. For those of you who don't know what work is, well here is a quiz:
Work is something you do to buy:

1) A roof over your head and clothe/feed your family.
2) A $400 dollar video card, a $30 heatsink, and maybe a few hits of EX.

If you chose 2) then you are probably the type of person in these forums I am trying to describe.

Now that I may have your attention, why don't you all go start a site of your own (www.getalife.com maybe????) and leave us real people alone.

This whole thing bugs me. :D I debated as to whether I should even acknowledge any of this (no specific gripes towards you SnakeEyes, just the topics you mention in general). They're all in the "dead horse" category but something you said kind of made my eye twitch and so I decided to do some research.

Before I get to the results of that though, I'd like to re-assert the fact that many of you that may be "put off" by some members being fired, banned, etc most definitely do not know everything there is to know. I never will publicly name names or provide details out of respect for the privacy of those involved. If you believe everything that you hear and the surrounding gossip then that's your prerogative but not an accurate or wise one.

As for Digi…he is a grown man and I respect the fact that he at least lived up to his "I'm taking my ball and going home" stance...at least much more so than others' similar ultimatums. I like Digi. Of course I don't agree with him on everything he says but who does. ;) ...or anyone else for that matter. :) If he wants to come back here as a regular then that's cool. If he chooses otherwise then that's cool too.

What I decided to research was a direct comparison of post counts from January 1 through today* from 2003 and this year (2004). Anyone familiar with vBulletin and/or the available statistics packages knows that this is a standard and simply query to run. I'll let the results speak for themselves with just two date ranges pointed out.

* NOTE: "today" is as of appx 10:30PM EST this evening.

1.) The NV30 was launched on January 27, 2003. A one week date range from that date is highlighted below in blue.

2.) Based on Digi's profile it looks like he stopped posted on February 12, 2004. A one week date range from that date is highlighted below in red.

I would THINK that SE was referring to the "regulars" posting...... AKA people in the know that are discussing real issues ( NOT that any joe blow's issues are not real), if there happens to be problems with drivers or some new rumour going around that OBVIOUSLY will skew the results that you have posted.

I am NOT saying that was what happened in this case, I AM saying that there are more than just stats when one is talking about the picture.

I'm not sure I was clear Max, but I would think that since you went through all this trouble you would understand what I am trying to say.
Lets NOT forget the discussions regarding the NV49Vs R420 or each on thier own at this time.
There is much discussion regarding each one also......

No offense taken max. But if you understood what I said to mean this site is showing that (lowering of post counts), you missed my point. Not having knowledge of the events behind many of those regulars being banned or leaving, I have refrained from commenting on the reasons behind it at all (feel free to search my posts if you like ;)). My specific concern was a few people that seemed to think digi stated we (this forum) aren't good enough for him and that this was why he left. I've seen a post or two where he expressed concern about the fact that some individuals had been banned or left the site, but nothing that said he thinks this site is crap, or that we're not good enough for him. Those posts caused a twitch in my eye too ;), but only because those are the sorts of things that do lead regulars otherwise in good standing to abandon a site. Namely an unfriendly atmosphere. Now if digi had actually stated something like that I would probably have just kept quiet (because I'd have felt the response posts justified).

I personally hope this site doesn't end up going where others have been, because, though I'm an infrequent poster, posting somewhat spuriously here and there and then going quiet for long stretches at a time, I still find this site and all the regulars (not excluding new members once I read enough of them to feel as if I 'know' them) to be a comfortable place to visit, read the latest gossip, jokes, and video card rumors, as well as a good place to find help for any problems I might have with nVidia based hardware. (Wow, was that ever a runon sentence :p).

BTW, and this is for spotch- don't go there. I'd rather not get into a spamfest / flamewar over something intended to be just a mature discussion. I'll leave it with this- some of us are very much mature adults who can have discussions calmly and rationally, and really don't need others to tell us to bugger off in such a manner when they don't like what they are hearing. :)

Anyway, sorry for diverting this topic so far. I'm done blathering on the issue, and I'm sure we all feel the same after reading the long chain of responses. Peace.

WB! :angel: Oh sure, there are a million cliches/analogies/etc about pure statistics to discount/praise their usefulness. I'm not saying these results are a silver bullet answer. However, what they do prove (to anyone with any sense) is that none of the recent events with past staff and/or Digi has caused any kind of noticeable/appreciable/existent decline or detriment to this site. On quite the contrary, it is clear that the site has grown during/since those events.

Thanks so much for the mature and lucid response. :thumbsup: I'm glad to hear that I did not offend you. Granted, I may have taken an inch and run a mile with it regarding your earlier post but I really wanted to know (and have everyone else know) what the facts are regarding post count. It's not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things as muzz pointed out and is very influentially based on timing, current events, etc, etc. It does mean something though and so I wanted to clarify things a bit.

I agree with you as well that there have been some definite mis-quotes of Digi. Unfortunately, that kind of talk is rampant on any topic...one of those "herding cats" problems in most any forum. :)

I'm really glad to have members around here such as yourself SnakeEyes. Sporadic or not, I sincerely hope that you always feel welcome and enjoy the time you spend here. :cool:

Yeah Max, I had to take a LIFE break from almost ALL internet forums( all my regular forum posts were lacking, not just this one).....

Oh I hear ya! :D My wife works nights a lot now and so I watch our boys in the evenings. Once they go to bed I've got some hours to burn until she gets home so I've been hanging out in the fourms more as a result. I tend to use forus as a tool, not a chat room, I come here to get information, and to give information, where I can. Ive been coming here for years now, and Ive sen lots of people come and go. The forums wont go downhill, as there are alot of people here like me, that use the forums as a tool, rather than a chatroom. I cant believe that people can post over 200 posts a day on one forum, let alone 400+ :eek: those are the types of people I believe, that should get out more, forums and/or the internet, should never take over your life IMO ;)
