If these hold true the R420 is going to kill it. :(

Then again that 9800 was clocked at 466 core to get 70fps.
If the 420 is more or less a highly OCed R3xx core card
the NV40 might just own it. ;)

> UT2003 1600 x 1200 Pixel = 190 fps
> UT2003 1600 x 1200 Pixel | 4xAA/8xAF = 100 fps
> Halo 1600 x 1200 Pixel = 50 fps
> Half-Life 2 1024 x 768 Pixel = 95 fps

Vergleich:
> ATi Radeon 9800 Pro (466/366)UT2003 flyby 1600 x 1200 Pixel | 4AA/8AF = 70 fps

I already see a major flaw in those "benchmarks" The NV40 is "rumoured" to have 210 tranistors, with a 16x1 pipeline

but hey until it is announced "everything" is a rumour

Those were the figure posted around various forums including this one by Uttar or Paul or Mufu not so long ago. Check the date.

those benchmarks are outdated, also ut2003 is cpu intensive, even my ti4200 does well in that game

Hm, i think i do recall that a while back, not very conclusive but could be cool news.

I first saw those benchmarks back in January on B3D:

I don't give those benchmarks any credibility at all. They're probably just made-up numbers.

If NV40 taped out in December, how could benchmarks be leaked so soon afterwards? And even if they were, all indications are that the December tape-out was not the final tape-out (or NV40 might already be in stores).

there is possibility that these are results of "first nv40", one that is rumored to be scrapped...and replaced with acctual nv45.

there are also many rumors that launch is delayed for some time......:(

About the delay, I expected they wouldn't launch at cebit or GDC has they haven't booked Halls (only booths) which they would if they were gonna start a massive PR assault.

it wont be launched at CeBIT, as only those that have signed NDA's will be allowed to see them

My GUESS is April sometime

Yep.... Then it will be june/july before u really see any out retail.
Then Dec for the refresh.
It seems ATI is running behind on the R420 to. :(
But maybe ATI will launch the 420 a cebit. :D

maybe both NV and ATI are waiting for Intel to launch the PCI express chipset ie Alderwood and co.

Could be.

I hope not. I thought ATI and NVidia were releasing the AGP versions of the R420/NV40 first. Then they would wait for Intel's PCIe chipset to unleash the PCIe video cards? That would make more sense. I am just tired of waiting and speculating, ATI/NVIDIA RELEASE THE CARDS ALREADY!!! :p

I dunno but maybe they both to get the PCI-Express and AGP cards out the same time..ie marketing is done all at once ;) No two seperate marketing campaign needs to be done. That ssaid I am with you buddy, RELEASE THE CARDS ALREADY

:D

The article at 3dcentre on the r420 is interesting. the bit that caught my eye is their reason for Ati canning the R400, ie it had performance problems. ( see link from Anandtech front page )

Funny that because for the last few months people, from another camp, have been saying it is because they don't need to release the r400 because the r420 will beat the nv40.

I don't know which is true, but I know which sounds more true.

The other part of the story that did sound promising for Ati was the low K process for R420. I have lack of knowledge on this, but me assumes that means low resistance and therefore low heat ?

In that case we may end up with the following scenario

1) R420 is faster, quieter and cooler .. only me will be buying nv40 :D

2) R420 is Slower, but quieter and cooler ... battle of words rages between two camps in the same way as IQ v speed did before.

rumored ~150 W for 210-215 million tranzistor NV40 is scary.....i am annoyed by too many fans already and card like this will need something much bigger then good old dustbuster....

I was testing my Dangerden gpu block last night with 80w Peltier

So I have no worries, just simply will not use the Pelt, and just use the chilled water.

I am actually looking into making a water chiller using a peltier

Works very well, if you don't have cold water cooling the Peltier then the Peltier gets quite hot on the hot side and the temp flows back to the cold side, making it work badly.

Good luck.
