I just noticed something funny in my mobo manual

I have an Epox i845 mobo 4b2ae.

Take a look at that diagram and tell me if that's a funny naming convention.

in the manual next to the USB connection it says:
USB 2
(TOP)
USB 1
(BOTTOM)

I believe that it's a strange naming convention.

When did USB 2.0 first arrive?
Was it when the P4s first came out?

I thought USB 2 has been around for a while but not as long as the P4s.

Strange eh?

PS: My manual never specifies what version of USB I have.

In the upper left of that motherboard image where the silkscreening reads:

B:USB1 T:USB2

I think that's just giving the physical USB ports themselves an identifying label...not that one is the 1.1 spec and the other is the 2.0 spec. I'd suspect that both of those ports are 1.1 spec considering date of that motherboard...IIRC

Yup, thats all it is. It is labeling a group of USB connections as "1" and the other as "2." If there was another, it would be labeled as "3."

Yeah all boards do that for when hooking up USB ports via the PCI bracket or front case.

Your "USB 1" and "USB 2" are built in sockets. If you want to ad a front socket
connect the adapter to "USBcon1". Not to usb 1 or 2. ;)
