The question is only on which level they the 4 piplines are deactivated.

DIE oder Design?
What would the advantages be when it's designed that way?

And also, I was fairly sure that nv40 is going to be single chip and that the 'big secret' would be BlowFX^2.
Mufu, how much of the dual chip idea is based on facts?

IMHO the tR420 Design works in this way:

The rasterization part of the chip is able to output up to 4 quads/clock. 4quads/clock is more Hir-Z firendly as 3 Quads/Clock. The quads are stored in a littel FIFO. Behind this FIFO there are 3 pixelprocessor. Each one can take one quad/clock. But only if they pixelshader programm can execute in one clock. If the FIFO is full the rasterization part will blocked. With this design ATI is able to add an additional pixelprocessor in a refresh chip without much work. Striped down version with 2 or one pixelprocessors are possible too.

Exactly. Very curious about that!
Can you compeltely confrim that the roadmap shown to Anandtech was wrong in stateing its a 8 pipeline card?

So it'll have 4 incomplete pipes out of 16 and the refresh will be a full 16 pipe design with minimal design changes?
Interesting, does make more sense than the yield story.

Yes.

Forget the dual NV40 idea. It's not a possibility.

NV40 is a single chip. And those who are thinking it will trample all over the r420... well it won't. The r420 will most likely be ( slightly ) faster.

Not in most games nor benchmarks. the nv40 is 16 pipes and higher ram clocks over the r420, plus they have more "optimized" drivers to put it in a nice way...

So what are the final ram clocks for the NV40? What are they for the R420?

Since the NV40 has faster ram clocks you must know the real numbers.....right?

I highly doubt they would do two 8x1 chips and call it 16x1. Look at how badly the Volari tanked doing the same thing.

NVIDIA's engineers are better than XGI's though.

It's amazing how many people hear a rumor and then proceed to talk about it like it's the absolute truth.

When u have nothing more...its better than nothing ;)
