Yeah, it is confirmed now that all major devs have nv40 samples, but whats more intresting about that article is, he says 'doom3' is close :D :D :D
Yep. :D
I was glad to hear CM likes the NV40.
We all know he did not think much of the NV3x line.
So maybe nvidia did pull a rabbit from the hat. :D

why can't leak specs!!! NV will hardly have a go at them for doing so ;)
Simple, they are all ######

Welll some people think that it will be the case, ie Ati owning Nv once more:
When visiting Epics meeting room at GDC I got the chance to see their new engine on NV40 and R420.
It looked like they were showing NV40 at 640x480 [in fact it was 1024*768] and it was very choppy with very low detail.
I was very impressed with R420 as it was obviously running with a much higher framerate and at 1024x768 or higher. The details in the models was much higher and it was very smooth. The only issue I notice were some minor artifacts which Epic put down to 24-bit FP.
It was very cool to see both parts but the R420 was by far the more impressive of the two. Epic claimed they are both equal in performance but would not show me their FPS counter. I believe this was NV marketing dollars speaking because I spent 20 minutes viewing each showing and the delta was clearly evident.

wow it already looks like the nv40 would have a hard time beating a 9800xt, let alone the r420 (inv)

Wow  i thought from all the fuzz NV40 would be faster for sure :afraid:
But what demo in that meeting they were running new Unreal Engine perhaps ?
Edit: did some reading yeah unreal 3 nice :drooling:

That whole thread smells fishey.
Probably , but i do agree on a fact that NV40 might have driver problems like early NV30 compared to current situation does alot better.
Only few more weeks to go can't wait :drooling:

So don't panic, i belive some ATI PR on these News ;)

Yea but he specifically said the screen res of 640x480 on NV40 wasn't accurate. He said it was 1024x768. He didn't say that the NV40 running slower was inaccurate.

Where the hell do you get that from ??
That guy in the B3D thread is obviously talking utter BS. Even an Epic employee said it wasn't accurate.
Again this is bull****. We did not provide comparisons between the two cards and we did NOT anyone both demos that I am aware of. We have NDAs with both companies that prevent us from giving out performance specs and both are unreleased cards and these bull**** mischaracterizations (which are out-and-out lies, btw) are not going to goat us into giving information we're bound by NDA (with BOTH companies) not to give out.
The other bull**** part of this is that we would never compromise our ability to demonstrate our products because of any marketing relationship, such as the MSU contest sponsorship for example, we have. We go to GDC to sell Unreal Engine licenses not to sell somebody's hardware so we showcase our technology the best possible way we can.
'nuff said.

As i fully suspected, i cant see any person who would of been let into the demo would no beable to distinguish between 640x480 and 1024x768....
Its cool that epic emplyess actually took the time to stop bs like that.

This guy is a developer eh and yet comes out with such comments as :-
"As far as I could tell ATI is gonna rule!!! "
" Maybe NV should bundle a power supply with the board, instead of Doom3 "
His first name is not Gabe is it ?
Seriously though I think that guy tries to give the impression of being a developer and actuallty he is an atifanboy who cleans the offices at a developers and wangled a ticket :)

Dave tried to winkle him out asking what the memory cooling was like

Getting or requesting to be banned that long :angel2: well when you return, you might instead be greeted by people arguing which is faster, nv40 or 9800xt and each side showing benchmarks where one wins over the other.

for me most interesting thing in that thread on b3d was that guy from Epic said they had like ~6 FPS with current HW and ~20 with next gen....he didnt say which one of next gen, but still :D

that game was badly unoptimized, there is no way a 9700 pro wont be able to run games 2 years from now, heck a ti4200 should be min requirement by then

Hold on, a short time ago you were going on about the nv40 getting 30 000 to 40 000 plus in 3dmark2001 and 11k in 03 when you thought it was 16x1, now you think it is 8x2 and you think the 9800XT is going to beat it, but the evidence on the Internet is still more or less the same as before and the evidence is that both new generation parts are x2 times faster than this generation.
Even though people with far more knowledge than me or you have said it is impossible to say what the performance is just on pipelines you still seem to base your argument on 16x1 is great, 8x2 is rubbish and nv40 will struggle against 9800XT.
Well if you want pipelines only then if, and I do say if, it is likely nv40 will be 8x2 and 9800XT is only 8x1, and nv40 is likely to be 475+ and 9800XT is low 400+ and so nv40 is going to be faster than 9800XT just using this pipeline argument.
Oh God it's not even April yet (mag)

Maybe. Actually I'm fully expecting steaming (in both senses of the word!) arguments about performance, image quality, driver cheats, pipeline architecture, cooler noise, paper launches, number of Molex connectors, blah blah blah. You know, the usual stuff :)
I'd expect nothing less.. :D

the reason why r420 is beating the nv40 in unreal 3.....
unreal 3 engine makes heavy use of directx 9..much more than half life 2
unreal 3 engine may need a directx 9 compliant card to run it, if the card is not directx 9 compliant it wont work...
r3xx ownz nv3x in half life 2, which uses a few directx 9 features....
so when u hav a game engine like unreal 3 that makes HEAVY HEAVY use of directx9, its obvious that the performance drop seen in unreal 3 would be a multiple of the performance drop seen in half life 2..
this also shows that the nv40 will not perform well with directx9 games...as compared to the r4xx series, and maybe even the r3xx series.

If you were to personally ask me, id say the nv40 will perform between a 9800xt and r420 in performance but meh, 2 weeks remain before we find out!
