The name say it all in NVIDIA official roadmap:

http://www.gzeasy.com/newsphoto/y2k4/03/24/NVIDIA.jpg

I am surprised the offical roadmap is slight changed compared to Chaintec version which showed NV41 will launch slight after NV45 but that changed now that both NV41 and NV45 will launch at the same time in Summer 2004, it not that long time until NV45. :)

I think that the 6xxx branding is not a big surprise, becuase it is the logical step. I heard that the new chip will be labeled 6800, but i may be wrong.

ATi will have a new branding, it will be something like with an "x". Latest rumors said it will be "x800".

No the R420 will be called R9900. I dont know what R423 will be called.

Ah sorry i coudlnt see the link nor did a 'pickture not avalible' show up.

Sorry for sounding dumb.

But i guess they are blocked from calling it the Geforce FX 6900 for various reasons heh.

OUR KNOWLEDGEABLE SOURCE told us NVIDIA's upcoming NV40 chip has finally got its name. And, unless Nvidia changes its mind - just to annoy us - it will call its next gerenration chip the Geforce 6800. The high-end versions wil be called Ultras but we are not sure is FX still part of the name.
Nvidia is getting on track to spill more beans to its partners and many of them are told what they have to know. In Taiwan, samples are keenly expected. Nvidia sent its PCB design specification to its partners and is just about to send sample chips.

Geforce 6800 sounds good but then Geforce FX 6800 was the original name for NV35 before Nvidia suddenly changed its mind. Perhaps the NV35 did not perform well enough to deserve that name.

I suspect that they actually might do something with the FX label, as NV40 is huge step from NV30, the 5XXX version.

NV40 and its 6XXX nomenclature have been seen more than one but you simply never know with the wiley Nvidia. µ

Indeed, it right number, 1000 jumped from 1 generation from 5800 (NV30) to 6800 (NV40).

It may do the same with R420 with 10800 or X-800 but many ATI fans do not like these bigger numbers, they all prefered 9900 number.
