lotsa people are saying that the r500 project has progressed a lot.
some sites say that the r500 will be coming soon
r500 seems to be coming soon
but xbox 2 seems faaaaaaaar away
means, xbox2 will be based on r500 refresh
makes sense that way, any new architecture always has problems
the r300 had prblems with lotsa motherboards in the beginning, especially sis motherboards.
now im not saying that the motherboard problem will affect xbox 2.
the r500 refresh will have most of the problems ironed out.also, the cost on research for an r500 refresh will be a lot less than the research on a new architecture like the new r500. this will make it ideal for xbox 2
an attempt will be made to keep the cost of the xbox 2 within reasonable limits.
xbox 2 will be backward compliant..
else it will face the same problem like xbox1...
hardly any games were available during xbox1 launch.
when games started becoming available, it was 2 late,
pc graphics technology had far superseded the xbox1
r500 will be
directx next compliant
0.09 micron(thats a no brainer)
16+4y pipelines.
y= 0 or 1 or 2 or 3 or 4
absolutely no truform support
shoould come bundled with a new game, (any guesses?)
should be out in q4, 2004 or q1, 2005

No, and I've no idea where people are pulling this crap from. It isn't coming out any time soon.

I read that someware also, espcially if they are going with a non intel complaint processor witch they are rumored to do.
From what I've heard it uses 3 IBM procs. That doesn't sound backward compatible to me :rolleyes2 .
*Edited do to stupid error (omg) *

Which is an interesting choice, given that the dominance of Microsoft's business (and the crappiness of some of their products) is due largely to back-compatibility.

All xbox fan sites are saying IBM will make the processors.

2 things here:
1st R500 won't be out until 2nd hafl 2005. DX10 isn't comming any time sooner.
2nd x-box2 backward compatibility could be a problem because of 2 reasons.
Maybe no x86 CPU and further on Nvidia owns massiv intellectual property in the NV2A and MCP department of x-box1.
Without licensing M$ will have a problem of beeing backward compatible.
Nvidia's CEO statet already in an interview with a online magazine that M$ might have to pay license fees to Nvidia.
I guess x-box2 won't be backward compatible.
If r500 will be able to render wobblevision! I am happy with that :D

there is no point wasting time and money on backwards compatability, you can get an xbox1 off ebay for like $50 by the time xbox2 comes out. as for r500 comming at end of 2005, does this mean no new cards for a full year after the r420 refresh? 90nm is very good, but I heard they might use 110nm first :( meh waste of time, cpus are 90nm already. seeing either the r423 or the r450(r420 refresh) is gonna be 16 pipes, the r500 should be at least 20 pipes, dx10, 90nm and 700/1200 minimum clocks!
geez R420 isn't even out yet. Assuming an 18 month cycle, October 2005 is the soonest you'd see R500.

if r420 comes out in a month, this means the r450 in late 2004 then r500 in late 2005

The R500 will be the spring of 05 card. :)
4 means 04- 5 means 05 and so on.
