Hi,

BEing new to this board I want to abuse your experience on the following:

I own an Geforce 2MX and want to upgrade. I am thinking of either the FX5900Ultra or the R9800Pro. If I look at reviews on different website the R9800Pro seems faster overall, but also seems to have more issues with different games and the drivers seem not as stable as the Nvidia drivers.

What is your experience in this?

Do I go for better performance with the R9800pro or more stability with the FX5900Ultra?

Your help is highly appreciated!

Thank you in Advance,

Volk

Most will say hang on up before buy till at least May! Thats hwen the purported new cards based on NV or ATI's new GPU hit retail. U have waited this long..whats a few more weeks.

If u are in a hurry, u can geta 4900XT which are cheap and can be overclocked! or u can get 9800pro which are going for $2XX at some online stores.

If I were u, I would wait :p harder said than done ;)

But will the new cards be affordable? I have read they will be around 500 to 600 US$.

I prefer to buy a less expensive but good performing card

I dun think they will be that expensive....maybe $500 tops and if they are u can buy a 5950U or 9800XT for cheap as they will get cheaper buy then ;)

It seems wise to wait unyil the new cards are out. What do you think is a better buy the 5950 or 9800xt? Alos with these cards it seems that the 5950is more stable and the 9800xt is faster.

I don't mind a few less FPS but want my PC to stable as I hate getting a crash when I am playing NFSU, as it is hard enough to win the races above 70.

less expensive, bang for the buck vidcards:

$100-115: FX5700 non ultra, goes toe to toe with GF4ti and 5600U, but adds capabilities and stability

$110-135: FX5700 Ultra... they're very woth it if you can find em for 110-135

$160-185: FX5900XT or SE ... If you can posibly spend a tad more than on the above two cards, then this is (to many) the best choice due mostly to its 256 bit memory bus.

$150-200: Radeon 9700 non-pro, 9700 Pro, 9800 non-pro (well, you could call the 9800NP a "hen's tooth" right about now though...) these cards offer performance competitive to FX5900, and have similar pricing...

Thanks again!

I think I am going to look for the 5900XT. That seems a nice sweetspot between perfomancer and price and having the benefit of the more stable Nvidia drivers. Will report back when I ahve found something where I live.
