Question?
Is there a transistor difference between a 9600 series and the 9700/9800 series?
I dont know if there is, but if there is could the 2 different trans counts, maybe suggest an Ati like route. aka 9600 series vs 9700/9800 series.
If there is no difference then never mind :)

Oh yes there is a big transistor count!

There's a difference of 20-30 million transistors, if I remember correctly. As for the 2 different counts, it isn't like 9600 vs 9700/9800. Those are two different chips with two different code names. 9600 is based off of 9700/9800, just like GeForceFX 5700 is based off of the 5900.

I thought the old nv40 was cancelled? so whats going on? the new nv40 is gonna be renamed to the nv41 and be for high end and since nvidia spent lots of R&D, they might as well still bring the old nv40 as a midrange solution. The cost of making the card isnt expensive, the R&D was.

75M vs 107M transistors.
