XP.
ME is THE biggest piece of **** ever to grace any sort of distributable media.
Go with Win XP.
Win XP will be much more stable. I can't stand the 9x series of Windows (of which ME was the last and probably worst). For example, the computer I am currently using is running XP and regularly keep uptimes in excess of many days.
XP = faster, quicker to get things done and 100% stable on my system anyway.
XP is much better.
Actually, WinME is considered one of the worst OSes ever released by Microsoft. People actually prefer Win98 over ME even though its older. Yes, ME is that bad.
98SE. still the best OS out there

Standard hardware config? Nothing new? Yeah, 98SE is okay. Not great, though.
XP is just so much better when you've got the power to run it. :P

WinMe was very much hit and miss. it either worked and worked well, or gave nothing but trouble.
as future programs and drivers are continually optimized for XP, XP will gain more prevalence over the aging and unstable 9x.
personally, i don't have many problems with Me. i just hate when something freezes and takes the whole OS down with it, etc. also some real log-in security might be nice.

I hate ME with a passion, there were times when the modem dialled to the internet and the computer crashed:rolleyes:
Instead of XP go with 2k instead:cool:
I switch back next week pending the new hard drive:)
XP SP1(NTFS) of course ...Extremely stable OS ... No doubt about it !

If that was the case I wouldn't need XP to play games. Windows 9x system (95,98,ME) all run my games really slow and win9x seems to loath 768MB memory for a fact it eats it all up as soon as I boot. Can you say 1MB ram left over (if even that)? after booting in a win9x OS. I fixed the later problem of booting up with 1 MB of RAM but even then XP takes only around 34MB ram minimum while 98 eats up 300MB. As you can see I can't use Windows 98SE for playing games. Games on 98 struggle with utilizing my resources. It uses my swapfile constantly. System performance degrades over time (in XP it caches the frequently used things and performance is instant with them)
If anything that OS should be called a (rubbish) business OS and not a gaming OS considering games are too slow to run.
Let me describe something about FAT filesystem compared to a NTFS file system:
I quote myself (http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=8024&highlight=NTFS)
Different times different amount. NTFS was faster in every case though.
It didn't matter if I have 3 gig taken up or 30gig on NTFS.
FAT 32 was slow even after 1 Gig was taken up and even slower after 25-30GIG was eaten.
NTFS didn't feel slower even if it was badly fragmented unlike FAT 32.
Even though I now I defrag a lot but defragging only makes boot time slighlty faster by a few millisecs lolz.
On FAT 32 if you don't defrag your entire system will go down in performance even more than it already was :/

If you play any OpenGL games at all, get an NT-based operating system, be it Windows XP or 2000. NT's OpenGL performance crushes 9x in every way while being comparable in Direct3D (especially XP).
Conclusion - XP all the way. :D
Saturn, my D3d games are much faster under XP than win9x anyway. So either way you get top of line performance.

D3D performance is more of an issue under Windows 2000, but since when do us happy XP users care about it? :p :D
Pure speed with 100% compatibility and stability :D
Not 1 crash that was caused by windows XP ever. :p
Overclocking my video card to extreme amounts doesn't count :)

Windows XP :D
Windows 9x/Me
Simple as that. You can't beat XP. If it doesn't work the first time there is always a way.
