It's beena while since Faud and inquirer posted some NV40 related stories ...take it with a pinch of salt
Numerous sources have confirmed that a Futuremark 3DMark 2003 score of12,535 has apparently been demonstrated by Nvidia on its pre-production engineering samples.

First i have heard of that. He does say In back rooms at the CeBIT Messe, we heard talk of 3DMark03 scores of "over 10,000 3DMarks" for both ATI's R420 and Nvidia's NV40 but, for various reasons, we weren't particularly confident in our source. However, in light of today's news, we'll mention that that same source said that the ATI R420 was somewhat slower, though "not by much".

I'm not counting chickens before launch after nv30 but I guess that does in with being 2 x faster.

I was gonna post that but you beat me to it. however u forgot teh linky ;)

is that 12k with "cheating" drivers? That means if nvidia doesnt make drivers approved for the geforce 6800, itll err suck. even 10k for 475/1200 clocks is amazing for 8 pipes, strange, it just might be 16 pipes after all, the 8 pipes could be the old nv40 that couldnt beat the 9800xt. I do expect the 9900xt to be slower with its 12 pipes, getting like 9500 stock to the 10500(with legit drivers) of the gf 6800. however if nvidias heat and power issues are true, youd easily match the 6800 with an oced 9900xt

I think it would have been better if they hadn't leaked (?) this info actually. All this will bring is alot of bitching about cheating etc before the card is even out. :)

I do want to see the 3dmark scores! its experience that the 3dmark 2001 score is 3x the 2003 on a weak cpu. for example: 6k in 2003, 18k in 2001. could this mean 36k in 2001 is really true?

not FM approved drivers...

however given the state of 3dm03 that the inq has conveniently left out... I woulda loved to see a shadermark release

now THAT woulda been something else... :D

12.5k 3dmarks can't be true.. according to a some people ,the NV40 will be an 8pipes card just "slightly" faster than the RAdeon9800Xt. ;)

btw.. it will be pretty cool to see a new 3dmark let say 3dm2004, with nicer looking Dx9 graphics ,and support SM 3.0 ..dont you think? at least as a demo :)

Maybe a patch with a SM 3.0 test?

Wowzers, i have to say that is very cool. I also do feel that that is about what the Retail ones will get in 3dmark03.

some are saying the r420 will have faster memory than nv40. GDDR3 that good huh?

Well, we would fist have to confirm if these numbers were obtained using Nvidia's tried and true cheating drivers (besides confirming if these numbers were obtained at all).

Maybe some game tests would be better then a 3DMark03 score. I mean, who trusts it anymore with Nvidia's behavior for the past year?

How is this new news? Hasn't anyone been paying attention when they've been claiming 2-3x performance over the last X number of months...? ;)

Nobody seems to be shooting it out of the sky so it looks fairly "true" and shader performance is a lot better, though of course with nvidia drivers in 3dmark03 as Nic says you have to make sure the right ones are used. However 52.16's are only about 15% down on 53.03 and this is a 100% increase.

I'll reserve any judgements until I see speed AND image quality samples from both companies. Nvidia has totally lost my trust in the IQ department.
