about time ati bring out a card to compete against the fx5200, although 6 months late at that. both "se" cards get owned by the 128 bit fx5200 but the 9550 should be close to the performance of the fx5600 but with much better IQ. I just might get one of those if they come at $50 and oc to at least 350/500

A 9600SE will beat a 5200. And the price for a 9600se is now in the $60-$70.

not a 128 bit fx5200 which mine is. many are 64 bits however. $60 still isnt worth it, the fx5200 is cheaper and much better if its 128 bits, but why not take the ti4200 which is twice as fast? the 9550 with 128 bit ram would be way faster than any "se" and a little faster than the fx5200 even though both are clocked at 250/400

A 9600SE is faster then a 5200!
look here and its going up aginst a 5200 Ultra not a 5200 non Ultra.
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1933&p=1
You will see that it wins about 65%-70% of the test and all the tests with AA and AF on.
The nice thing is a 9600SE is much cheeper then a 5200 Ultra.

The 5200 Ultra is a 128 bit card and go read the link before you post first.

The 5200 Ultra performs over 20% faster than the 9200 with the SE cards trailing. This indicates that EVE is a game that requires more memory bandwidth than the SE cards can handle.

see? in any game where the 9600se wins, its because they only used 1024x768 and they were cpu limited too. 1600x1200 would move the strain to the video card and its memory bandwith much harder.

the radeon9200 owns the 9600se too.

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.html?i=1933&p=10

ditto!

The 9600 SE and 5200 Ultra perform just about equally on Halo. Both these cards are playable at this frame rate, but for those who require very solid frame rates, just drop the resolution down a notch.

Anyone wanting to play Halo with a 9200 based card would want to do so with fewer lower quality options and on a lower resolution than 10x7.

Ok so Halo doesnt use as much ram bandwith at only 1024x768 but who cares the ti4200 is miles ahead of both.

wow I didnt realize how crappy fx5200 cards are but man the ti4200 is shining strong, look how far ahead it is :)

my conclusion? at 1024x768 the 9600se is slower than a 9200 and equal to the fx5200 NON ultra. the 9200 matches the fx5200 NON ultra. reguardless of all that, there is no point getting either as the ti4200 for the same price is MILES faster!

Agree with the TI4200 statement.
