ok i seem to still be having some kind of refreshrate problem even though im using xp pro sp1 a gf4ti4200 and the 56.72 drivers, ive got most of my resolutions set to 100hz using nvidias built in refresh override cp, 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768 are all set to 100hz, which my monitor is capable of.
For the most part i have no problems with refresh rates in games and the correct rates are set all the time, the problem i do have though is that halflife/counterstrike only sets the correct refresh rate after the computer is restarted, for example i restart my computer and play counterstrike it loads up and the splash screen(640x480) is at 100hz/100fps then the ingame res(1024x768) is also set to 100hz/100fps, everythings fine at this point i can even quit steam/counterstrike and load it back up and the correct res's are set again, but when i switch users or log off and log back on, thats when i get a problem... i load up steam/counterstrike and at the splash screen its running at 60hz/60fps then i go into game res and its also set to 60hz/60fps! and the only way to get it back to 100 is to restart :( this is the only game that does this it also happens whether its d3d or opengl, vsync settings also dont change anything, ive tried most of the obvious things such as vsync, driver reinstall game reinstall, im just confused why it only happens to this game and only when i switch users or log off and back on......any ideas or suggestions would be very greatly appreciated im goin nuts tryin to figure this out... thx

Well i sort of found a solution to this, its actually more of a workaround, but it works great and i have no problems so far. anyway i disabled nvidias refresh override settings downloaded rivatuner and tried using the low level refresh fix, but that didnt work, so i used the custom monitor driver creator and set my gaming res's to my preferred refresh rates, created the driver then went to hardware manager and updated my monitor driver and pointed it to my created driver, restarted and now i get 100hz in all my gaming res's all the time whether i switch accounts or whatever else, so far its working great! hope this helps anyone having a similar problem :)

I think CS is a troublesome game in terms of the refresh-rate overrides working. I guess I'm a little late since you already have a work-around but if you ever have refresh-rate issues, just try reforce. :)

Forget all driver level or even rivatuner refresh options.

Go get RefreshForce. Best refresh proggy ever. Been using the same version since my GF4TI4200 with the 40 something drivers and i still use the same one now with my 9800Pro. Works like a charm.

Here is the link although since you worked around it it's not like you really need this.

You just run it once and forget about it. It's not resident or anything. It fixes it and then you're done with it.

is this program even needed if i dont use vsync

Yes. This program is just dealing with the refresh rate of the monitor to keep you from having to view games with a 60hz refresh rate (which is pretty hard on the eyes).

I basically use reforce so that my monitor always uses 85hz in all the resolutions I play in. So, if I use vsync during a game, I can never go above 85hz (fps). If I play with vsync off, my monitor refresh rate is still at 85hz but the game itself is free to go above 85 hz (fps) b/c it is no longer trying to stay in sync with the monitor. If you don't use something like reforce, the exact same thing applies except in this case you'll always be viewing games at 60hz. So, when you use vsync it can never go above 60fps and when you turn off vsync, the game is free to go as high as it can but you're still viewing it at a hard on the eyes 60 hz refresh rate (you'll notice flicker if you look at the screen out of the corner of your eye).

Hopefully I didn't confuse you. I don't think my explanation is very clear but I can't think of another way to put it at the moment.

Be careful for bugs in some games though, like BF1942 needs a tweak in order to run over 60Hz, and Enter The Matrix is the same.

Yeah, good point. I've never understood why that's the case with Enter the Matrix. If I override the refresh rate using the ATI or nvidia control panel, it works fine. If I use reforce, it balks. It took me a while to figure out what was going on with Enter the Matrix. I don't remember having an issue with B1942 though.

Anyway, theultimo brings up a good point. Some of the games don't like the refresh rate being forced so you may have to tweak it (the game) a little. So, if a game fails with some error messaage after using reforce, don't panic. :)

Does RefreshForce 1.10 also work with NVIDIA ForceWare 56.72 and a GeForce FX 5950 Ultra ?
