It seems that ATi's and Nvidia's release dates are going to be so close, possibly even on the same day!
But also he mentions that R420 and R423 are exact same specs accept for R423 being native PCI-Express. Then he points that the specs that they have are correct, of it being 8xX.
So it now seems to me that R420 & R423 are 8xX, not 12x1, and 16x1 as everyone is 'saying' now.

95% of people say the r420 is 12 pipes, wow alot of guys will be disapointed if its not and itll be a waste over a 9800xt if its not 12 pipes GRRRRRRR

Thats probly a question we will not know for a while, even after the 13'th : O
ppl, modern GPUS work with how many pixels they can push in one pipeline with the equivalent of one texture effect applied to those pixels rather than individual pipelines. Even R3XX and NV3X have been said according to ppl at B3D and articles at 3dcenter that they have one pipeline.

Well regardless, it seems the masks will come off the 13th!
My explanation was a simple version of course I have read a lot more things happen and the number getting pushed per pass gets less and less.

But its hard to compare 1 pipe to another becouse they work differently for example nv30 vs r300 , so i was wondering in what principle will nv40 work same as nv30 or more like r300 . How mutch of a jump its gonna be ?
Uhh couple more days :D to wait.

Me, few more months to wait.
Me, few more months to wait.
No one will be able to buy one on the 14th anyway.. order yes, but traditionally the launches have been mainly paper. I expect almost a month for them to hit shelves in the US, and maybe 2 to get here :retard:
EDIT:
ah, and there you have it:
April 13th, but retail availability will occur around April 26th
Not quite a month ;p but still, like usual

Nvidia expects retail availability on the 26th so that's only two weeks after they paper launch the NV40. What's interesting is that the 26th is also the day ATi launches the R420. IIRC, ATi's policy is to launch when there is retail availability, no? I doubt they will both appear in stores at the same time, but that would certainly be cool though.
So according to this article, in about 2 1/2 weeks I can buy a R420 or NV40 at Newegg.com ?! :drooling:
I dunno, sounds fishy. Probably be another waiting game.
But if I DO see it at newegg, maybe it'll FINALLY be time for me to replace my trusty GF4TI :cool3:
Are we sure there wont be any NV40s available? At one point last year nvidia had claimed that they weren't going to do any more releases without a large number of production cards available. I'm sure this was more about optimism than anything else, I never saw any nvidia comments regarding availablity after the "no more paper launches" style remarks. Is there hard evidence that there will not be any significant number of cards available at launch or is everyone basing their assumptions on what has gone before?

They did say that, and i do belive that DID happen with the Geforce 5900 Ultra, they were in stores within the week of the launch.
However, i do belive the Launch the 13th, and by the 26 some will trickle into stores (however OEMS like Alienware and Voodoo etc. i suspect will have them THE 13th) why? because they allways get them first heh.
If the article is correct, ATi and Nvidia are oviously copying eachothers launch and retail avalibilty, thats no concidence. But it only seems to be better for the consumer, we DONT have to take a chance and buy the card hopeing it is the fastist, and then we dont feel stupid if we wait till we get benches from the other card that the first one is the fastist.

:lol2: heh now thatll be quite a big upgrade, although id uprade your cpu to an a64 or youd be better off with a 9800 pro due to cpu bottleneck
