This better be wrong, if not. I don't know if I will have enough connectors
with the 4 fans. 2 hdd's, dvd and cr-rw.

Well, the pics of the NV40 reference board certainly had 2 Molex power connectors (the AGP version of the board at least). Rumour has it that the PCI-E versions that appear later will only have one.

It is going to be something of a pain though, not only sorting out the power cables, but from the power consumed => heat produced => cooling problems point-of-view.

Looks like electrical humming from our cases is inevitable!! :super:

A bit of a bummer.. since newer antec PSU's don't add SATA power cord they replace molex ones with them.. i really dont have any left over. I already use alot of double adaptor things, but i guess i will need more if i'm going for NV40 ;\ hell.. i even think my 9800pro shares one with something (pretty sure the one it's using isnt black but ill have to check).

Dissapointing.. but nvidia cards seem to be heading in that direction of resource hogs (expansion space, power, etc).. power at the expense of almost everything else. Well, i guess if they think about IQ too then i'm all fine with it.

I think my Enermax 420w can handle it.

I ain't skeered

Oh come on, what would be the point af needing 2 "clean" Molex connectors. I have at splitter cable on one of mine, on which I have a 9800XT @ 500/400, an 80W pelt and a Swiftech 12V waterpump. Now is the NV40 going to use 2x that..... I doubt it. Even if it did, why would it need the so-called "clean" Molex lines?

Your power supply can only output soo much power on each line. Rumor has it that the NV40 could use up to 140 watts. If a typical power supply can only handle 150 watts on a rail, then...well yea you could get into trouble...but its all just rumor so meh :)

The 140W doesn't seem far fetched at all IMO. Heck my cpu is using 160+W alone under full load. Even when firing up the 9800XT @ 500/400 in a 3d application, my psu is pulling ~100W more from the socket (and yes I've measured it).

I guess it's going to be interesting to see what the real thing is like. Personally I'm anxiously awaiting a return to an Nvidia based videocard. Having been a "true believer" and Nvidiot since the riva128 cards, I jumped ship when the 9700PRO came out and haven't been back since. I'm expecting/hoping this will change soon....

Is that the additional power consumption of the system as measured at the wall? Power supplies aren't 100% efficient at converting power drawn from the wall into power delivered into the system. So that number may not accurately reflect the draw from the components themselves. A cheapo power supply might only be ~65% efficient for example. The rest ends up as heat pumped out the back of your PSU.

oooh the 2 molex connectors could have alot of guys going to the r420. youd need to upgrade your psu too for the nv40 and if it uses that much power, the r420 would oc way better and be cooler

I think this, if true, SUCKS. I already have a good power supply, served me well for a while now. I have a DVD drive, (2) 15K RPM hard discs, a floppy, and several fans right now. There is no way in hell I can jury rig things around so that I get two clean molex connectors going to that video card. It's already tough just getting the one. That turns a $499 upgrade into a $620 upgrade. :(

wow.. After I just bought this PSU.. There is no way in hell I can get another clean molex... It comes with a clean molex out of the box, but I am using up every single other one... :( Oh well, maybe I can figure something out :)

you could go r420. better IQ and uses less power. If you must have the nv40 and dont want another psu, you could disconnect the cd rom and just connect it to use it but then youd need to swap out your video card for that LOL then swap back

Here's an idea. Why in the hell don't they do what they did with the Voodoo 5 6000? Just let us plug these things into the wall and package it with a brick adapter. It'd be a hell of a lot simpler than forcing us to user another molex connector..

Ive allways wanted that solution, i coudlnt wait for voodoo 6000

just think you could say, "Yeah, i have my own UPS for my videa card"

Got a spare spot on my BackUPS Pro 650 right here waiting... ;)

I don't think nvda is going to oblige though. They'd rather make us buy a new power supply. :p

I have a coupla freebies but lets see what the deal is :D

are we gonna upgrade our psu's for connectors or are we gonna wait for the next gen pci-express cards and related mobo's to come on through :D

I'll let everyone else take the pci-e plunge this time... You guys can be the test pilots.

The first NV40's are all agp from what I understand. ;)

I have 2 plugs ready and waiting.
I just sold my 9800pro-256 and I'm back to
a GF3. Boy it suxs. "lol" The IQ on it after using
a new 9800 is night and day.

That's one of the first things I noticed as well when I got my 9700Pro. IQ in 2d was better than my ti4600...

I just hope these new cards woun't be loud not as original nv30 atleast :wtf: two molex connectors doesn't look so bad as long as they don't kill power supply :eek2:
430W Enermax got lottsa plugs :drooling:

I connected a battery charger to an old PSU, and guess what got really hot? the free molex connector between the chargerplug and the PSU.

two wires just pressed together in a stick-plug might not always be 0.1 ohm and we are using several amps here. 50W/5v=7A which is alot.

Maybe SATA powerconnectors are of averagly better general quality?

we're really maxing out this PC technology world you guys!

time to go and buy a dedicated 12V power supply!!

oh well it'll be worth the upgrade.....time to put the Ti4600 out to pasture (aaa)

but to be honest my Antec 550w should be able to handle it fine

The more I see and read about the Nv40 and the R42x, the more I am inclined to go with the R42x. However, I have to wait on real benchies :)
