Hi guys,

i am going to have a Q&A with nVIDIA tomorrow about the nv40. If you have any questions regarding the new chip, please free fell to post them here. I will collect them and then send them over to nvidia.

Thanks for your support!

P.S.: I have ask the site admin for permission to open this kind of thread!

Performance difference between a pci-express and agp card?

1. ask them what date and time the NDA's expire
2. talk about pipelines. Is it 8x2 that can act like 16 or 16x1 for real?
3. what clock speeds will the cards come at?
4. how much power will it take? 100 watts?
5. what happens if you only plug in one molex instead of 2, is that enough for stock?

I can answer 2# for you it's 16x1 (true) or 32x0 (Virtual)

I wonder if nVIDIA are still gogint o try and push CG or are not going to bother with it no more?

What is the black thing at the top right of the board that looks like a small microphone?

1) Will there be NV40 Value/XT/SE?

2) Does NV40 have the rumoured on-chip hardware accelerated MPEG4 decoding and encoding?

3) As you can see from this Extremetech article, NV3x's on-chip TMDS transmitters are inferior to external Silicon Image and ATI's on-chip TMDS transmitters, has this been fixed in NV40?

http://www.extremetech.com/print_article/0,1583,a=110973,00.asp

4) Will there be mainstream and value NV4x cards with AGP interfaces? There's plenty of people that have AGP systems out there and would like a newer card without changing to PCI-Express just yet.

Thats all I can think atm. I'll add more later I think.

Based on the rumours that ATI X800 will use Micron memory, it report with high yield and Nvidia goes with Samsung memory, the yield is low and Nvidia cant met the memory target they require.

If the rumours are true, then asking Nvidia:

1) Why use low speed Samsung memory and why dont you go to Micron for high speed memory?

2) Why does 6800 Ultra got 2 molex?

3) Why does 6800 Ultra use 4 fewer capacitors than around 6 to 8 capacitors in the last 1 and 2 generations ago?

So that all. :D

I really hope to expect Nvidia to response about first question like say that they only used Samsung for the engineering and samples and then Samsung told them that they got low yield and cannot give them high speed memory they need so Nvidia has a backup plan to use Micron. So rest assured, the retail boards will now be use high speed Micron memory.

Yes, both of them will be.

I am pretty sure all we will see is the Regular and Ultra and (low end Possibly) versions the main stream SE & XT will be with the NV45core. nVIDIA have been doing this since the TNT2 days with the M64.

Probably 4-6 weeks after America gets them. That's usually how long it takes to get them shipped here (Australia) and then sent out to retail outlets.

"So, NV40 is old hat now, and we're all bored with it. Tell me, what's NV50 gonna be like?" :D

ask if the non ultra versions are gonna be saddled with the 128 bit memory interface.

1. For the last two years, your main competitiors have done more with less. More performance, better (usable) image quality, less transistors. Indications seem to be that at least some of those elements will play out once again this round - comments?

2. You haven't implemented Low-K on any of your products, and still haven't with NV4x, and you even went as far as to call it dangerous - yet your competitor has had no problems with the process for months now, and have achieved both good yield and excellent performance/heat/cost benefits. Comments?

3. For the last 2 years, your drivers have effectively removed control from the user, instead preferring to force your own "quality" standards upon users. You've consistently cheated in major benchmarks, degraded IQ for speed, and have been "found out" numerous times. Is this going to continue with the NV4x generation, knowing that the enthusiast community will (without doubt) probe deeper into your drivers than ever before?

4. ATi have secured contracts for major consoles, replaced NV in marketshare terms, and have broken many of your major OEM deals - yet you continue to call Intel your main competitor, and dismiss ATi. Do you honestly believe you can reverse this trend?

5. You're not going to answer any of these questions, are you?

questions ? :)

1)Game consoles.. DOes NVidia have no interest in consoles anymore or will they like in the future to continue witht hat market?

2)Opinions about next generation COnsoles vs PC games at that time , will Nvidia plans to have a Gpu more powerfull ,much earlier ,that the ones expected to launch in incomming next generation consoles?

3)In how much time (years)? they expect to see games with the cinematic quality of their Nvidia tech demos ,demostrated in Comdex in the NV30 and later in the NV35.. ex DAwn,Timemachine,GAS station and the hell knight(whatever name it was) and the dancing ogre.. :) ?

4)any comments about Playstation3 vs Xbox2 and others battle ,any prediction ? :)

ofcourse those question need to be asked by someone in the know in this department ,with contact with what M$/SOny consoles and games that developers are currently working.
